Steering lock removal

Trying to figure out how to get my steering lock cylinder out of my '06 EC250 frame. Going to powdercoat frame and thought I would do away with it, take it out for the procedure or should I just p/coat over it? Anyway if I'm going to take it out I'm not figuring out how at this point. I know it will probably be simple and I'll feel like a goof. Thanks in advance:)

steering lock

Do you drink wine at all? After drilling out the hole you will want to plug up the hole so debris, water, etc can't find its way into the steering stem area. We use wine corks, painted black.

Leave it in. Get it powdercoated along with the frame. It is about as useful as a cork but saves on black paint!

I debated on taking mine out a couple weeks ago before powercoating the frame but decided to just leave it.

Water can make its way through the lock anyway. On my '03 that I had powdercoated, I cleaned it out good with contact cleaner to eliminate any grease, had it PCed, and then packed the lock with black silicone RTV.

There is a pin that holds it in I believe. I have never removed mine so I'm not sure about what troubles you might have.

I have keys for mine. You can forget using the lock though if you have the radiators on! By the time the lock engages in the steering stem the right radiator would be crushed if the lock stop was not set! Its just another querk of Gas Gas bikes or should that be lack of attention to detail?
