Stock fork oil, 2010 Sachs

I am getting close to changing the stock fork oil on my '10 Sachs EC300.

I like the way the suspension feels and haven't done anything but lower the fork oil height 20cc.

I want to use the same oil as Sachs put in, to retain the feel after the oil change. In the past I have had bad experiences changing out fork oil and having the forks feel different afterwards.... I am guessing that the feel has to do with the variation in oil viscosity among different brands. (I changed out stock WP oil for Belray 5wt on my old KTM, and it totally transformed the handling from good to crappy with only an oil change).

Anyone know what weight and brand of oil Sachs used in the forks in 2010? The stock oil is a light honey tan/gold color, so I know it isn't green Belray. Beyond that I don't know.

Just had mine serviced & they used 5wt Motorex.Don't know if Motorex is stock,more likely a GRO product if they do fork oil.

Thanks for the reply. Do your forks feel the same afterward?

I am really skittish about this, I would like the feel to remain the same. On those WP forks, I screwed them up with an oil change. Same height, weight etc. but different brand of oil did them in.

Got a ride on them today.Felt great.The clicker changes were more noticable on just 1 or 2 clicks.Maybe thats the clean oil?As long as the level & weight remains the same it's got to be better than old oil?

All I was looking for was that the viscosity of the new oil be the same as the old oil, when it was new.... With so many different fork oils out there calling themselves 3, 5, 7, 10 weight the viscosity ratings are very different which, imho, provide a different feel to the forks.

I am happy with the stock oil and have found nothing on the internet that even suggests what the factory fill is at Sachs. I'm thinking German Sachs, German oil... Fuchs/silkoline maybe??

Maybe I could go through the trouble and send some of the oil to Blackstone labs for analysis and get an oil with a known similar viscosity? I really don't want to mess up my fork feel.

I do know I'll be taking some oil out of mine though.. I still cant bottom these bad boys with even the biggest hits.

Despite my poor mechanical skills resulting in 2 forks that still aren't back on my bike, I can advise that the Fuchs Silkolene 5W Racing Fork Oil is the same colour smell consistancy etc as the stock stuff I pulled out. Green!
