Tell me about Ducatis

So i go down to seacoast sportcycles to take a look at one of these.

When reading a review about the bike they mentioned the dirtbike like ergonomics hmmm that sound like something worth taking a look at. not sure about the wiz bang styling but what the hell, looking is for free right.

Whilst looking the bike over one of these catches my eye

So naturally I gotta set my azz on it ....

Holy Fuggin shet!!! not many bikes out there really send a chill up my spine or make my heart flutter ... this little puppy sure as hell did. This thing is like a dirtbike with an 1100 cc motor stuffed in it. Just like a dirtbike your sitting right up on the gas tank. Just sitting on it in the shop it was begging to be flogged. They should call it the Hyper Retard because I don't see how you could ride like anything but and absolute retard when on it!!!
Unfortunately .... or maybe fortunately it has a little gas tank just a real dirtbike and the sales guy thought you'd get 100 or so miles out of a tank. Going for a ride on one would be just like a turkey run ... never pass a gas station without topping off! The lack of range kind of turned me off a bit, that and the $11,000 price tag .... Gulp!!

Of course I'll probably get 14 or 14.5k for my hd ....
hmmmm ...

The good news, or maybe its bad news, they have a demo bike you can test ride!! And because of the interest they have seen in the Aprilia Shiver they are getting a Shiver demo bike too. I can do a back to back Shiver v. Retard test ride!! The shiver has a 4 gallon tank, no range issues there and it "only" sells for $9K!! What a deal ....

Somehow I think in the end if I get another street bike it will be a $4k drz sm or a used modern bonny. Hell for what the duc goes for if I got the drz or bonny I could throw in a neat little MGB for when it rains, and still have some change in my pocket. My advice is if you have $11k burning a hole in your pocket stay out of the ducati dealerships!!

I told you so. That thing is pure sex. The dirt bike riders street bike for sure. For me the tank is no issue, I have no time to tour anyway. My VRSCD goes less than that on a tank. The bike will work for me, because my rides are shorter and on backroads.

BTW, Aprilia is releasing their version of the Hypermotard this fall. Its called the "Dorsoduro", and is basically the Shiver with dirt bike ergos (long seat, flat tank, etc.). The Ducati is an original though, and a lot of the parts are higher quality. I havn't looked at a Shiver in detail at a dealer yet (just at a show) but from reading about it some of the parts (like brakes) are cheaper Chineese knock offs, which turns me off. To be fare though I'd have to see and ride it myself. Also, up to now, Aprilia has a poor reputation for dealer service and parts, which they are pushing to improve. Reliability on the 450/550 twins has been not so great as well. The Tuono and Mille have been great but they use a Rotax motor. Considering this, and that the bike is a brand new design, it may be better to wait and see how things play out with Aprilia.
