The Genius of a GasGas

So right now I'm packing all of my stuff for the ISDE, including a bunch of bike parts. This year I'm renting a bike (last year I shipped one, but I'm a little broke this year to buy another new bike) so I'm taking a lot of parts off my bike here to take with me. The parts list is:

-triple clamp, sub mount, steering damper and tower
-rekluse clutch
-bark busters and fasstco flex bars
-front axle pull
-rim locks (because I hate the stock GasGas ones)

I pulled the clutch out of my 07 and put the stock one back in, no problem. Next was to pull off the BRP triple clamp and damper apparatus. Just as I was about to do this I decided to check dimensions with my 01 EC200. Everything was exactly the same (triple clamp, steering head, etc) so instead I pulled the BRP stuff off my 01, which I plan on selling anyways. This saves me a lot of hassle as I will be riding again as soon as I return from europe and now I don't have to spend an evening wrenching (well, I still have to reinstall a rekluse and barkbusters, but nothing else).

I don't think there's very many bikes where you could pull the stuff off of an 01 and be able to transfer it directly to the brand new models. Yet another reason to like GasGas.

Eveytime I work on my bike(s) I'm impressed at how well designed they are. The design execution might be lacking at times but the design is so simple and clever.

I really like the gas tank configuration. Makes everything easy after its off.

Are you renting an 09 bike with the Sachs forks? Do they use the same size upper tubes as the Marzocchi's for your triple clamp? Just thinking here...

Good point Skidad. In the past however, only the lower clamp IDs changed from WPs to Ohlins so if I had to guess I'd say the tops are the same. I would verify it if I were Steve though.

If it's the same ID as the zokes then it will fit. BRP hasn't changed their clamps for the 08/09 models so everything should line up. I'll let you guys know in the next day or two as right now I'm in the Frankfurt airport on my way to Greece!

Thanks again guys! Right now I'm sitting in my hotel room in Greece, we got wifi so I'll probably send updates fairly often. Ran into Ricky Dietrich in Frankfurt - nice guy, same with his dad. Also saw some of the French team (including the girl that races a GasGas, her name escapes me) and the Portuguese team. Greece seems pretty nice so far but the pollution is a little thick and we could definitely use some rain. The women are amazing!

If you need anything GasGas related (provided I have room in my luggage) you have until tomorrow morning (Tuesday 26th) to let me know. I leave town around 11AM CST. My flight leaves at 3PM CST.
