My new bikes stripped down and i bought a checkpoint offroad aluminum impellar. How do i tighten it down correctly without messing anything up?

search water pump you should find a lot from last summer.it needs to be spaced out (cover that is) w/ gaskets or have the back side(impeller) relived as much as possible.

Yep! Take the time to triple check the fitment of the impellor and its clearance to the cover. Was issues with some stock impellors and the checkpoint needs modification in order to fit. Mostly on the 2010 models onwards where they changed the impellor cover.

Then, actual fitment, its best to remove the rhs engine cover and hold the shaft while you tighten the allen head up otherwise any torque you generate to snug it up will also be transferred through the plastic gears at the back. Needless to say, having one of these crack/snap causes issues of its own.

As Jake said if you have a 2012 and beyond it won't clear the cover. You will have to modify it like GMP did.

I borrowed something like this off a friend for the install on my '11.

IIRC the impeller is threaded and it spins counter-rotating to the thread so you don't have to go nuts tightening it.

I used a plug stopper as well, but was advised not to because you are putting stress on the gear teeth and apparently it is easy to mess up if you are a bit heavy handed

As per my post above.

The gears behind the scenes are nothing but plastic. Its not hard to get a bit heavy handed, although probably more likely to occur when trying to crack one undone.

The screw was pretty loose on my original impeller. Judging by the way the gasket stuck to the case I'd say no one had been in there since the factory buttoned it up.

Well i found the thread, jesus, ive ran into a new problem. Does the new pump cover, gasket, and impeller from gofasters fix the problem? I guess im going to make a spacer out of alum sheet if its no too thick. I have a few thickness. Thanks for the heads up.
