TM 125 Engine

Did GasGas ever use a TM 125 engine in the early 125 bikes?

Yes they did until 2000 or so.....

So were the TM engines better or worse than the GasGas engines that followed?

I don't know the GG 125 engine, but did own an '01 TM125. It was a strong engine in both senses: held together well and also powerful for a 125, revved out very high.

The GG 125 motor was a good strong motor. Very durable too. Their only down fall was ring wear at the exhaust bridge. But if you change the ring often enough it was a non issue. Clutch is absolutely bullet proof with no need for after market parts. So long as you throw away the aluminum plates and replace with steels. They came stock with half aluminum and half steels in 05.

The '94 through '96 125 had TM engines, I know. I didn't see any more 125s until '01. Those had the GasGas engines.
The '94 and '95 EC250 had TM engines. Paul Edmondson (sp?) won the WEC on one.
I have the parts books for those bikes, if anyone needs parts numbers.

The pistons interchange between GasGas and TM. (I used to stock Vertex TM300 pistons for my customers, because I could get them from Tucker Rocky, as a less expensive source than the (then) OEM Wiseco.
I was sure glad when they got Wossner to make pistons for them in 2004. That made them available "aftermarket" both as Wossner and Athena (also Wossner, but with the coating, as Wossner named pistons come now.)
