Too much oil from exhaust

none

New member
Hi everyone,

New here to the forums, and new to Gas Gas (just got a new 2013 EC125), but not new to 2-strokes.

Out of the crate, and after proper break-in the bike has a LOT of oil (black) coming out of the connection between the exhaust pipe and the silencer... It gets all over the engine and rear swing arm. There also is a little coming out of the back of the silencer, but I assume that part is normal.

Just got the spark-plug replaced, and still lots of oil.

Using exactly 2% oil (Motul 2-stroke 800).

Any ideas as to what can be causing this?

Thanks!!!

The jetting.. There isn't much of a database on what the 125's like here.. but if they're anything like the rest of the range the stock jetting won't even be close.

Thanks Jakobi

Thats what I thought...
Its a shame that these bikes aren't setup on delivery like KTM does here (in Israel). The local importer is useless in that sense...

On my bike the brake lever switch wasn't even connected... and that could have been dangerous...

Thanks Jakobi

Regardless of the brand, I'm of the opinion that any new, even used bike should be inspected thoroughly before hitting the road, or trails(I mostly see people hit the trails 1st). It would seem you've done that. Congrats on the new machine! Would love to see a pic or video, and a ride report...once it's sorted to your liking.

Differently work the jetting, but I am not sure were to start with your 125. At the connector put 2 zip-ties on each end to seal.

Yes. You can use zip tie on the pipe rubber.
but the best is a coil from an old big seal.

What is your Jetting.
I Run in my:
Main Jet 180-190
Pilot Jet 45-55
Needl NOZI
Second Clip
Slide no 7
Air Screw 2,5 rotations Open

All Depends in the Temperature and altidude

0.9 to 1,2 mm squish

Elvis74,

Jetting is out-of-the-crate unchanged (except for the idle screw).

The only thing done to it is new transmission oil and and a new plug.

As for altitude, about 850 meters above sea level. Temps +- 30C
BUT, most of my rides are between 850 meters and 100 meters.

Hope to take it to a Gas Gas friendly place next week to have the carb adjusted. Never done it myself, and don't want to break anything...

As suggested, take the time to learn the carb. There is loads of useful information and people will help you if you're not sure. A big part of owning a dirtbike is learning how to work on it yourself. The hobby costs far too much if you need to take it to the shop for every little thing.

Start by finding out what pilot, main and needle (inc clip position counting from the top down) you have in the carb now.

Thanks for all the input people.

I think I may have found something that could explain all the oil...

I have smoke coming out of the rear of the exhaust as expected, but also from the front of the exhaust. I can feel the exhaust coming out of it. Attached is a pic of where I feel it coming from. You can see the oil dripping from the bottom of the silencer.

Is this normal for a bike with +- 15 hours on it?

Anyway, I'm having a friend help me with the jetting.

Thanks !

Mines been doing this - i assumed it was because the wadding needs changing. Gotta get a rivet gun before i can attack it.

2004 EC 200

Looks like your jetting is very rich, most likely needle size or clip position. I would remove rivits/screws from muffler to disassemble clean all oil residue. use high temp exhaust silicone (loctite red high temp) run a bead around joint, assemble muffler wipe excess silicone off and let set for 24 hour before use. I also use silicone on the joint between muffler and pipe.

I assume the 125cc bike has a power valve?

If so, check that any vent tubes from the power valve are not pinched off with a zip-tie. The tubes are pinched with zip-ties when the bikes are shipped. If they're not removed by the dealer when the bike is assembled it results in mega spooge.

I think I solved the problem

The dealership "swore" that they changed the jets / needle before they delivered my bike.

I had their chief mechanic come to my house to take a look...

Turns out they had the wrong everything in there...

The needle clip was in the BOTTOM position.... and both jets were way too big...

We moved the needle clip to the top position, and changed the jets to 35/175, and its like I have a new bike... Much more low and mid power... At the top end, there is a real kick to it... scary sometimes...

BUT... there was still huge amounts of oil from the exhaust... because (so they say) I was riding 20+ hours with a way-to-rich mixture, and it took forever to get rid of the exhaust oil... The dealer cleaned out the exhaust, re-sealed it, and now it seems much cleaner...

Hope now I can enjoy my bike...

Thanks everyone for your help !!!
