Torque specs :(

Ok, I have to walk away from the bike now...! According to manual I downloaded, it said 25 nm for bolts and nuts of 8 m size, but I just twisted the top of one of these bolts that secures the front axle right off.

So did I read the manual wrong? Help 😒 What should the torque for these bolts be?.

Thanks, Rob

8mm is the diameter of the bolt, not the socket size.

You put 18ftlbs of torque on the bolt.

18 ft pounds...

Woah! 18 ft pounds is still over 200 inch pounds (not much less than I had it set for)

Found another post where somebody's 250 manual lists them as 4 nm or about 35 inch pounds. I think I'm gonna go with that and then do a key word search before I tighten things now. :(

Thanks,
Rob

This might give you a little more to work with. Don't trust anything in the manual. Much has been lost in translation. Also take note of the thread size compared to the table. Parts change from time to time, so you need to factor in what you have in your hand compared to what's written down.

End of the day, I find a ktm 250/300 manual more useful in terms of what to use Loctite on, torque for particular sized threads, etc.. but also, don't rely on the wrench any more than I do feel. Triple clamps are the exception - you don't want these too tight.

On that torque table it says Front Axle Clamps are M8 and torque to 15Nm... But mine are M6 bolts.

It's a 2004 EC300 with Marozochi's, what should torque be?

All the best, Dave.

I use 8 nm or 71 in-lbs on the pinch bolts.

Is torque for M6 bolts for engine cases known? Old manual for '06 model states 10Nm.

New user manual has only one case bolt specified at 12Nm, so i presume this is for all of them.

Probably giving them only 10Nm also wouldnt hurt, as it is subtle difference.

Yes, that would be for all of them. I personally would torque them to what the current manual states unless someone can provide a reason not to.
