Triple Clamp questions!

Hey folks,

Well I was out on my 97 Ec250 last weekend and noticed that my triple clamps are cracked! I guess the previous owner liked everything really tight!
Anyway, I'm huntin for a new set of triple clamps but since so many other parts are transferable from other bikes to the GasGas what about triple clamps? Any info on this topic>?

THanks - Josh

BRP has the upper triple clamp for GasGas bikes from '97 to '05. They don't make the lower clamp though. Which clamp was broken?

Both are cracked. Basically on the outside of the clamps there are some hair line and some large cracks on each bolt area. I just changed the fork seals and oil and when I was mounting the forks I noticed it didn't snug up and felt like something was wrong. Then I noticed the cracks. So I need a whole set but since GasGas has changed it's part dist. no dealers can even order me a stock set or check to see if they even have one in stock. Sounds like I'm screwed for a couple weeks. Bike for sale? haha

Josh,

I'm pretty sure the original billet clamps were prone to cracking, if thats what you have. Do you have the original 45m conventional Zokes? I'm sure you tried Town & Country. Try some of the bigger dealers like GoFasters, RT&T and Halls. Perhaps you could get a newer set of clamps and have bushings machined to fit the 45mm tubes. You could even correct any differences in offset this way.

What would be an even better, but a more $$ solution, is to put a newer set of WP or Zoke inverted forks on the bike, with associated clamps.

I see your in Stockholm, I'm in Jefferson. I'm sure we ride the same trails.

Gas Gas North America were replacing these on customers bikes back in 1998, for free. (Recall?)

GoFasters bought all their inventory, they may have some in stock.

Guys thanks for all the information. I actually talked to Steve at GoFasters last night and he was sure they had something that would fit the bike.
GMP - Who do you ride with in J-town? I ride the stockholm area more but have a crew of cats to ride with in J-town every Sunday when we venture that way.

For a very long time BRP did not make another production run of top clamps for the Marzocchi 45 mm Magnum (conventional) fork. They now have them on the shelf for sale. It would be safe to say that it is probably their last run of these due to low demand.

As far as the lower clamp, the stock replacement part may be your only option.

Josh,

Most of the time we ride from my house on Lake Swannanoa. Usually do a 50 - 60 mile day. I usually ride with a couple friends, my brother, and nephew. Sometimes we run into the other groups. We have two other places to ride as well, out of town, and usually alternate.

So you can get the top clamp from BRP - now you need to round up a bottom clamp...

Given the age of the motorcycle - any of the newer distributors would not have it. Gofasters or the old canadian distributor would be where I would try first - the old canadian importer is Mountain Motorcycle LTD in B.C. Canada.

I did notice that they may be making this same triple clamp again - the new 450 pampera 4 stroke comes with the 45mm conventional zokes; You would need to confirm that the triple clamp offset is the same on the new pampera 4 stroke clamp as it is on your '97.

If the part cannot be supplied to you here in the U.S. due to the transition to the new U.S. importer - I would call a dealer in canada. There are a number of canadian dealers who sponsor this board - closest to you would be GasGas Atlantic - who is also the importer for eastern canada.

Guys thanks again for all the information on this topic. I talked with Steve from GoFasters and he hooked me up with a top and a bottom. He is stand up guy at that and the folks at North Tahoe Motorsports were the same. Not something I can say about my local New Jersey dealership whom only told me nope don't have it so call back in a couple weeks and maybe we can order it! I can only assume that have that much money that they no longer need mine?!? haha, oh well. Again thanks for all the help with this, I knew GasGas bikes were awesome but who knew the GasGas board was as good.
