Twin Chamber GasGas forks for 2010 300R!!!

I just ordered .45 springs and will change the oil to 7.5 sae and see how they work out. Concerning the rear sag, I have 8mm preload on the spring as Glen has recommended and the static sag varies between 3.8 to 4 cms and race sag varies from 100 to 110 (standing and sitting) Maybe I'll crank the preload up 1 mm just to see the difference. BTW my forks are set at the factory mark or about 5mm from the fork caps.

Hi!

Been checking the forum even though for the last 14 months I am on a YZ250... Cancel the order of the 0.45s... Waste of money... You will get into other troubles because they will be stiff and probably you will have to revalve again. I revalved the YZ and kept the stock 0.43s. It is very good but the rate is at the limit for my 77kg of weight with normal clothing.

I have experience with the 07 Marzocchi on the GG250. Even though soft (great through roots and rocks) and without much progression, it was ok when I set the rear sag at 110mm (try your sag at around 110mm before you go any further). The 08 Marzocchi forks as I remember they are stiffer, so it shouldn't be bad unless you are a pro or you are practicing mainly MX. The 07 Ohlins forks were a different story and quite stiff and I had to remove 10ml of oil to be ok for my speed 1.5 years ago.

How did you like the 2010 Sachs forks when you tested your friend's bike?
I might come back to GasGas if I will get convinced enough that the 2010 models are that much improved compared to 07-09 models. Otherwise I am continued with the perfectly set-up YZ for another season...

Leon Hi again!

My forks have been revalved by the gasgas agent and have greatly improved from the original settings, which were very quick in the rebound and would blow through the stroke very easily. As they are set up now, they offer good tracking through the rooted rocky trails but still are too soft for high speed scrambles and light MX. I might just swap one stock spring with a 45 one to get an overall rating of 43.5, or put both 45's and replace the preload ring with a thinner one and lower the oil level to 130mm. I will keep you informed anyway.

The rear sag is at 110mm and is very very compliant. BTW it also was revalved since it was loosing all its damping after 30 minutes and was like a pogo stick. I ended up in some trees coming down a steep downhill, it was just all over the place.

Concerning the new standard 2010 Sachs forks, I can say that they offer just that much more rigidity required but are as compliant as the marzocchis in the rooted trails, much like 2008 WP's. I had a chance to ride a 2009 racing 300 as well which was terribly stiff, both front and rear, and the owner had them set at fully soft, they had a lot of sticktion even with over 50 hrs on them, night and day with the '10 fork. Owner was very very frustrated!

I am loving my Showa front end in my EC300. It does everything well!!!

The Sachs with a midvalve mod was night and day different, but Showa just seem better with alot of products and knowledge out there on them.

And I put Ohlins stickers on them just to upset people...and it works.

LoL That's funny. :D

Most recent conversation......

"But don't Ohlins have gold caps?"

"Yeah they were out of stock of the caps so I got these Ohlins forks cheap with Showa top caps."

Some people really will believe anything. I have been calling the bike a "Kegbotin" ;)
