I was gonna buy some bits from go fasters a seat cover and some graphics for $60 but postage is another $30.

I bet I could post the same parts to the U.S. 1st class recorded delivery for $15.
sometimes I bid on items from ebay (not bike parts ) and the postage prices seem to be ridiculous.

just a question why is it so expensive?? I bet more people would buy parts from the U.S. here in the UK if the postage wasn't so over the top.

please dont all shoot me at once

Mailing from the US to the UK is cheap compared to mailing to the UK from Canada..........
They could be quoting you Airmail rates....??

I agree and I live in the U.S. when a 1 pound item costs $15.00 in postage. Flat postage fees are a way to increase the profit of an item. My wife works for the post office and it's criminal what some companies charge for postage.

If you think that it isn't fair, just email Mark. Pricing is only calculated by price, the website does not know if something is big or small. Many times the pricing is spot on.

US Postal Service rates look like a steal compared to shipping via Canada Post domestically and abroad. Canada Post made $400 millon profit in 2010 -from their fees you can see why.

I buy stuff out of the UK that is shipped Royal Mail and it's ridiculous how cheap RM rates are. You're spoiled by that my friend.

My experience with GoFasters is that the USPS shipping rates are cheaper if you order over the phone rather than the internet. Shipping rates for phone orders seem to be calculated more acurrately based on weight and size.

Also, if you order more stuff that you know you'll need in the future, you can take advantage of USPS size and weight limits to maximize what you get in a box to save shipping costs on stuff you're going to buy eventually.

+ 1 on companies using postage fees to increase profit "shipping and handling" emphasis on handling. I stopped ordering from one particular business who did this to me more than once.

I've found that using the postal service for shipping can be reasonable if you take the time to find the shipping option that suits the circumstances, unfortunately many businesses don't take the time and you will get gigged on the receiving end for shipping that's 5 times too high.

+1

By calling your order in, the order is then calculated by actual costs, sometimes pricing of actual products will vary from internet to phone. You have to realize that for a specialty company like GasGas there isnt 30,000 bikes being sold every year. I am sure as soon as Mark makes a pile of cash he will spend it on making GasGas operations better before he builds himself a new mansion on the lake.

I had about 2kg sent from gofaster to southern africa with USPS express mail service for about the same price (which is the same sort of price I was getting from mxsouth previously) but I emailed in my order

Then you have other issues that have to be added into the cost of parts or shipping like dealing with our government. Mark just made his second trip to a US Customs office ( 6 hour drive round trip) to explain each and every line of an invoice/shipment from Spain. He said there were parts spread on the table that customers needed but that he could not get. He's a tad stressed over this issue. :)

Pretty obvious thet the govt. is completely out of control now. More bureaucrats making life more difficult. There motorcycle parts! Give the guy a break. Probably looking into whether or not GF has any political contributions to the wrong party. Look what they did to Gibson Guitars with the wood. Poor guy was doing the same thing for years and all of a sudden its a problem.

Also if you do ship a lot with other courier services like Loomis or Fed Ex and have an account there are substantial saving. I was quoted around $60 to ship 17 kg parcel one province over, but then I used a buddy's account from a wholesaler and the price dropped to $26.
Scotty R still can ship a bike in a crate for $199.00 across Canada now how does that add up. Really what can a guy do??? They have us by the B@%%S. And that's not even if you get hit with a brokerage fee...that's another story.

Shipping costs

The estimated shipping costs is a website program from our website company 50 below...50below is one of the main powersports website company's out there. I am sure the program is one that US Postal set up for them and for the most part it is very accurate or maybe inflated slightly, but we recalculate and try to ship the quickest least expensive way once we process an order.

We quite shipping items "first class" for many reasons, customers state they don't recieve, no way of having tracking numbers, or first class address isn't correct and gets returned to us. We did start using "stamps" (online US POSTAL shipping company) over a year ago to be able to ship smaller items quicker and cheaper than UPS, but we try to do only "priority" so there is tracking and accountability to it.

Plus, and i hate to say this....have you ever seen where ortonville, MN is? Shipping from here instead of from east coast costs a little more, not much but maybe 5-8% more...but it gives us the privelage of doing the things we want to do, rather inexpensively and easily (ride dirtbikes, being one of them). We have cheaper labor costs and other things, all to try and keep the costs down and to afford to stock as much as possible. It does however take the almost the same effort and time to pull, box, ship small $12 orders, versus $200 orders, so we have add $3 to each UPS or speedee order to cover boxing, tape, time. US Priority we use their boxes and very rarely add handling charges.

UPS diminished freight (plastics), now that is entirely something else..very expensive to ship larger boxes with very little weight. UPS doesn't care about the cost of the product, its all about the size of the box that is going to take up their space. We try to make box sizes as small as possible when we have the time..but shipping one fender will cost almost as much as the fender.

So for international or even domestic, if something doesn't seem right..call or email us..we'll help you figure it out.

sorry

a little long winded but wanted to get everyone the information...perhaps Clay is right..a little stressed over some major customs issues right now. I plan on having a few stress release cocktails rather shortly...:D

BTW i wasn't dissing go fasters, I was just making a point that in general US shipping costs to the UK are quite high.

A bit like a company in england .. I wanted some Paioli stickers for my forks that I have overhauled..I saw a fork leg stickers for 80p for a pair
about $1.20 cents.

The company wanted ?6.95 ($11) to post them, they said either stickers or a frame/swingarm/ etc it's still ?6.95.

Epic Fail

With ebay, the way they have it set up is kind of a scam because they don't charge a percent of the shipping cost only on the item. So, that is why there is such a large gap, eBay is trying to fix it with feedback scores and shipping prices, but even then shippping/prices in general on eBay are sometimes a scam.
