That piece isn?t exactly called the starter clutch, they call them a back torque limiter. There was a torque spec on it but I can?t remember anymore. Designed to slip a little when the motor kicks backwards occasionally. The starter clutch is on the back of the flywheel. As where to get one from , sorry no idea mate.

Thanks for that , at least I now know what it is called .
I don?t suppose you know it it?s a left or right hand thread.

I am pretty sure it is a rh thread, as I don?t have a torque wrench that does lh threads.. but it was 04-05 when I was last playing on them!

Cheers , have you had one apart , I would like to know what is in the middle, so perhaps I could repair or make whatever it is that give it resistance or torque , mine is just spinning, someone has tried welding it in the past , but obviously that defetes the object of what it does.
I have replaced the sprag clutch , if I can fix this I can get the bike running.

From the top of my head they had what looked like big dished spring washers, the nut could be tightened to give more or less slip, they were updated a fair few times from the factory till they changed design in '06 IIRC. The starting systems were never great on the gasser 4t's, when coupled with the early magnetti marelli ignition systems they were lucky to start. Even new. They got a lot better with the '09's that had the japanese kokusan ignition systems.

Many thanks for that information , at least I may be able to bodge it up somehow, providing I can undo the bolt .
That?s if I don?t have any luck sourcing a replacement .
