Water collecting

Hello folks, I have a 2011 EC300e and after a couple of kind of muddy rides, I notice I have alot of water collecting in what I belive to be the airbox. When I tip the bike on its side, a surprising amount of muddy water pours out. I look down into the airbox and see water in the bottom, but am not sure how to drain it off. I do see a little cover on the outside the airbox with a cover flap.

Does anyone else know what I am talking about?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Don't remove the air filter. Pull off the bodywork, minus the rear fender. There should be some sort of drain under the air filter. It might be clogged with mud & debris. I have to clean dried mud and other debris that manages to find it's way in there regularly. I wouldn't remove the air filter 'till the airbox is pretty much cleaned out.

Yeah there should be a flap down the bottom that opens under water pressure to allow drainage. Make sure its not stuck shut with anything. I can see how a leaf or thick mud could block it up.

Ahhh, that makes sense under further inspection. So Im assuming the small amount of water left in there after draining is ok.

Im going to pm you a jetting question good sir.

Hey Ernie, ensure the oneway flap is clean and workining below the air filter then silicon up the holes and gaps on the rear guard that is letting dirty water in.Use a torch to find them.

Just to ensure we dont have an international translation issue, by torch do you mean a gas torch (flame, hot, fire) or a portable light device (flashlight, uses batteries etc). :)

I found a large opening from the airbox to the rear fender, think it is for wiring the rear light but is in a place that let's a lot of water in

My flap seems to have bent slightly open, I think I should flip it around so it seals

on the WWW I hear. No experience aye!

Matt, No real issue with the flap not pushing up hard. Mine has a small gap at the front too. The way I see it is that if you submerge it the water pressure coupled with expected forward motion should be enough to keep it shut. My airbox always looks like its been caked in mud and water but never any past the filtero.

Mine has clogged and stuck open several times, and I have cleaned and flipped the flap/reed valve. A trick I used on the older pre '07 airboxes with the baffle in the bottom was to add a block of filter or skid plate foam to the well in the bottom. This prevented all the crud from comming up through the bottom, while allowing any splash water that made it into the aixbox to drain through. Worked well, and would probably work good on the new airbox too, keeping the little flap valve clean.
