I'm trying to get my water pump impeller of but the little nut in the middle its rusted and it just keeps turning the engine over.. Any help cheers

I had To remove mine the other day.. Was a but of a pain..

Put into 4th gear or higher.. Chock rear wheel.. Wedged a large flat head screw driver wrapped in a rag between impeller wheel n case.. Put allen key in with 30 cm breaker bar.. Take up tension n then muscle it..

Worked a treat for me..

Cheers,
Nik

It will come of with the side cover. You can then grab the shaft on the other side of the cover and break it free.

The bolt on mine is seized in the shaft despite sealing it with blue Loctite upon install of an LTR impeller five years ago when it was new. Stripped the hex even using a little heat, forced to drill the head off. Now I have to pull the side cover to hold the shaft in an attempt to save it. Oh well, got to expect some hassle after five years. Last couple rides/races I noticed slightly milky trans oil, and a slight coolant level drop. Figured I could do it quick from the pump cover only, not today.

One thing you do not want to do is use the engine to lock the impeller for bolt removal. The gear is plastic, and pinned to the shaft, not designed to take a big load.

+1

That gear is not meant to be stressed like that.

Hmm

Piston lock tool, only about $15. If u have a rekluse this is a mandatory item IMO.

You can also put rope into the cyclinder through spark plug hole and fill-up the cylinder preventing it from turning....not the best but it has worked for me in a pinch

Like previously mentioned, bike in highest gear and then put a long big screwdriver through the sprocket atop the swingarm....assuming u r not reklused

Any way you lock the motor your stressing the gear, especially in the area engaging the pin. If it doesn't come out easy I'd pull the side cover and do it right. If you damage the plastic drive gear you will not know until a lot more damage is done.
