weak spark

hey guys, i'm having a problem with my 2003 fse450. It has a really weak spark, and its not starting as a result. I have a brand new gel battery in the bike w/ a bettery tender, and i just replaced the the wire that runs from the coil to the plug, as well as the plug itself. It's not just weak with e-start it's weak with kick start too. Any opinions are appreciated.

I'm wondering if its the coil? But until i'm sure its the coil, i don't want to spend the $100+ on a new one.

Thanks again

I'm not the thumper expert but....I would check:

1. Kill switch to make sure it is not causing the problem. Could be grounding some place?
2. Clean all connections with a cleaner and make sure there is no corrosion
3. Look for pinched or broken wire within the wiring system

Maybe someone else can help out here....

So today i got it to start. But it ran really rough and had some knocking noises. Would valves needing to be adjusted cause starting problems? B/c i figure thats probably whats causing the knocking.

I can adjust the valves if i had the manual. But GG's website doesn't have the '03 shop manual for download. Anyone know where i can get it?

Thanks.

So basically i need to take it to a shop. I've never dealt with shims for valves before. Everyone says that drz400 valve shims work. Do you guys think I can take my cylinder head off and bring it to a suzuki shop (I dont have a GG dealer within 3 hours of here) and give them the specs from the manual and have them do it, or should i take it to a proper place?

Does anybody know for sure if the drz400 valves will workf or the fse450? I've heard from multiple people in difference places that they do.
