Welding footpeg brackets?

What is the best way to strengthen the mounting point for the foot pegs?
Mine have elongated the hole and one peg is getting close to the edge of the bracket.
I am worried that I will be half way through a specific desert race over here and the peg will fall off.
From what I can see I would need to either weld a few beads around where the hole is and build it up and then redrill for the peg or is there another way?
Cheers Mark

I broke my peg mount on my 2012. I cut off the brackets, welded in a fitting piece in between the rests of the mounts. Then drilled two holes and fitted a bolt-on peg mount.

If it is just that the hole elongated, you could weld a hardened washer to the outsides of the frame bracket and end up with a new hole and twice the surface area for the through pin to ride on.

If your mounting bracket is still in fairly good shape you could swap out the footpeg pins with 10mm button head shouldered bolts. I get them long enough so the shoulder catches both sides of the bracket and then cut the excess threads off. I like this method because it keeps you from bending the bottom side of the bracket and you can always snug up the bolt a little if your peg is starting to feel a little sloppy. I've done this to my last 3 bikes. It really makes for a nice solid peg mount.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I will have a look again today and maybe try one of these fixes.
Thanks Mark
