Well, my sweet looking pipe guard didn't look sweet for very long.

looks better now, like you really ride the thing. I hate showing up for a ride and there is some guy with every add on and not a scratch. you know you will be turning around at some point.

Hahah! True! My bike usually looks kinda beat up so I was just excited to have a few fresh looking parts. It even prompted me to wash the poor thing!

LOL - been fortunate to not have that happen with the maroons I head out with :D

shang - she looks like a proper dirt bike now  I went through 2 pipe guards on my orange 300; first one had a nasty encounter with large rock in the side of the trail (my foot didn't fare too well either :o ).

Be sure to pull that guard and check the pipe if she takes a hard hit; the guard I referred to above didn't look too bad (cracked), but the force transmitted to the pipe was significant - had to get a new pipe. That's one of the drawbacks of using a C/F guard - force transmitted can really mess up the pipe - especially at the neck right out of the cylinder. I'd still run one - saved lots of small dents and dings along the way ;)

Yeah, I'll keep an eye on it. My stock pipe probably would have been okay if I had a guard, although the left side was folded against the frame the it was kinked at the head pipe.

the p3 pipe guard seems to hold up well.mines been on for 50hrs through a lot of single track scrubbing.admittedly only a couple of soft drops but plenty of scraping.that said I should probably have a look behind it!

I've got all the kit to blow out the dints but hey guess what mine got a dint with a hole in the middle "sods law"!!!
Think I will have to invest in one of these guards

I'm a firm believer that the dents make your bike run better.
And that a folded head pipe makes it run like diarrhea.

Somewhere at some point in time dirt rider actually did a test to confirm this. It was crazy they dinged the pipe pretty hard and the bike gained horsepower! They bent the pipe right at the neck and it lost H.P.!?

Not all carbon fiber pipe guards are alike. Without naming names - some have only an outer layer of carbon fiber and then blown in "chop fiberglass" for the internal layers - this allows for more flex.

Others use multiple layers of "weave" below that pretty top layer of carbon fiber weave that you see... These are much more rigid and prevent dents beneath it...

Say Jeff, I have a like new condition Doma pipe with like new Ltr pipe guard that I bought off a former GG rider. The guard isn't as pretty as a PC or Eline but looks beefy. Did this guard protect well?

Yes. And that is a *great* pipe. ;-)

Just a side note that the the Australian company that is a sponsor here - Pro Power - also makes their guards with layers of weave and no "chop" for greater strength...
