Who's using a steering damper on their GG?

Don't run one, never have.
I have been told I'm a F'n animal over this exact topic many times. Doesn't mean I don't contemplate adding one, I just never do.
So whats up with the new Ohlins under the bars one? Seen adds for it a year ago or more and haven't seen or heard anything really since. That one could be the one to change me, just for the bling factor alone. They don't list Gas Gas though on their website.

I also like Kelly's Motorsports under bar version, but don't know enough about it. I just never seem to pull the trigger.

Of course most I know have the Scotts, and everyone says the same thing about them, very durable, rebuildable, serviceable, and adjustable. We should expect that though from an Ohlins product.

If I do decide to add one in the future it will surly be an under bar set up.

when i was using the scotts, i removed the nylon stopper (had same problem as you..), used a locking type split shaft collar with a fat o-ring below it. the collar stopped the possible failure/sliding down of the post, and the fat o-ring gave it plenty of play if there were any big hits....

I have settled on using an 8mm bolt instead of the pivot pin. I cut off the head and grind the end flat on the sides to fit into the Scotts damper arm and then cut bolt to actually rest on the bottom of the pivot tower. A little work rounding off the bottom of the bolt so it pivots on it's bottom and it cannot go anywhere. Also, it adds strength to the tower assembly. Maybe adds an ounce of weight to the bike as a package but not enough to matter.
It actually aids in preventing binding of the pivot pin since it's longer and doesn't get cocked sideways under heavy loads.

I had never run one before until I got my Gasgas. I have ridden 20+ years and was skeptical.

I only really notice it when riding in a rock infested section. Is it life-saving? IDK, but it is certainly helpful. Is is worth the $? I think that spending the money on making sure your suspension is set up correctly is money better spent. It does make things less stressful and less tiring when riding the rocks, but I made it through before without the stabliizer. But, as I get older, things that make life easier begin to be more attractive.

Since I already have a Scotts, I have my post ordered for my '05 Gasser.

steering damper

put one on my 06 300 and would not ride without it.don"t have to hang on near as tight in the rocks and it saves a lot of energy in the longer races.i race the 50+ class and the scotts damper with the fasst flexx bars have really helped.i don"t have nearly as much upper body soreness the day after.

I have an idea.....

I just had the same problem with my new GPR installation on my 2010 300. GPR by mistake sent me a clamp for a 09' and earlier models. The 2010 frame (and Im guessing 2011) has a smaller diamater steering head. I called and they sent me the correct clamp asap. I have had nothing but very good experiences with GPR's customer service.

Just realized something......... I just answered my first GasGas question !(not claiming that is absolutely correct)

ya ive had nothing but good experiences as well with them, ill give them a call on monday and see if i can exchange it.

thanks for letting me know there are 2 different size collars

Here is mine all mounted up.

Dont hear much about the motoz in this thread ,mostly scott gpr & weR Anybody have expierence with the Motoz ?

the top mount dampners look sexy up there but you guys are flirting with disaster. i highly recomend under the bars or fender mount (what we run on the yz's) sooner or later you are going to take a dampner to the chest , i know it made me cry like a lil girl.....

w.e.r and 2010?

per the comment above, i've been thinking about wanting to go with a low mount damper on my new 2010 300. anyone used a w.e.r on one of these bikes yet? i have a feeling the catch tank is gonna make this a no-go.

if so, there are always sub mounts, but i swear to god, this is the first bike i've owned in about a decade that feels just right on in terms of where the bars are for me, and i don't really want to move them upward even a little bit...
