WTB flywheel weight

My son has finally talked me into letting him get an 03 EC250. He is moving up from a CRF230 and I am a little worried about him being able to handle the power so I figure I will mellow it out best I can starting with a flywheel weight. Anyone have one they want to sell? Heavier the better I guess.

My son went from a TTR230 to a '04 EC250. And he did NOT want to make the switch because he loved the 4-stroke easy-to-use power. He was comparing to my XC which is the same as the newer DE models (light flywheel and very snappy). When he rode his bike the first time he loved it.
If you find a bike with the 2K3 ignition (wires exit the flywheel cover at 2 o'clock) he will probably be fine without a FFW.
Try it out before you just throw one on would be my suggestion.

My son has ridden my EC300 and like yours hated to give up the torque, but I told him I was not buying a CRF250 or anything like that (too high matenience and no more torquey than my EC300). A friend asked to buy his 230 and I saw a nice 250 so we went for it. What worries me is we sometimes ride knarley stuff and I just didn't know if he could keep it from stalling, and I didn't want the bike to pull his hand back pinning the throttle when it hits (he is only 140 lbs or so, but strong for his size).

My daughter at age 12 went from a TTR-125 to a KTM 200 EXC. No flywheel weight, no G2 throttle, and she weighs 110# (but very tall). She was fine, and that KTM has a hit.

I think that teaching throttle control at this early age is really a good thing as it will pay off as long as they ride. This set up taught her how to be smooth, and she is really a smooth rider. Her throttle control is really good.

Instead of the flywheel weight, i used a G2 throttle. If you are ham-fisted, having lower sensitivity on the throttle really helps bike control. That might be an alternative.

.

Totally agree with this.

Your son is young I presume and kids adapt quick once they ride something for a short time.

G2 and/or flywheel weight are good options. Rekluse a more pricey option but it's almost like cheating:D
