01-06 Conversion to a 2011

I have received my "2012 Carreras" kit, but will not install yet, as we have a local race in a week, and have a lot to do to prepare the track etc.

In a couple of weeks I hope I will be able to tell how it all went.

Looks nice. There was a thread on this before. Just searched the forums a few times and buggered if I can find it though.

I've just put a 2102 conversion onto my 2002 EC300 - all fairly straightforward, apart from working out which bits of old and new airbox to use! Will try and get some pics today and post them up.

And making a bracket to fix the headlight cowl to the front mudguard. Also had to change the tailpipe (luckily a mate had a spare 2010 one) as my 2002 FMF wouldn't line up with the subframe mounts.

And what is so different about the pre-2001 bikes this cannot be done on them? just curious as I did swap subframes from my 97 with my 03 and it fit. heavier but did work. In fact I think I sold it to someone here who needed it for a 2001 or 2002?

I do know on the 97's the water intake on the head is to big. I was looking into doing this awhile back but, ran into that problem which would just cost more to get a new cylinder and head.

The cylinder head can just be milled down at the water outlet. I did this to allow a newer style fuel tank fit. Just thinking if I got really into the rehab to update all the way to the newer style.. I still like the CB engine and power of that bike. Its not better just different.. And if I sell her I'd get so little $ its not really worth it to sell.. I'm keeping her around to play with.

Cruiser

I am in the same boat, my 99 EC is worth very little, but still a great bike to ride. The money spent on a cosmetic overhaul would bring style up to 2012 standards.....since the motor has not changed since 99 might as well dress her up a bit!

I would like to know what "hard parts" would be needed besides a new gas tank and sub frame?

Thanks

I was just out in garage looking at the inlet wondering if it could be milled? Nice to know it can be done. Will do it when I pull the jug for a rebuild. I told my wife we can upgrade the plastics when she stops falling over so much....:D

Here's the pics of my 2002-2012 conversion. Used a kit from greenlandmx.com

I had a '00 and it was not a lot different than an '01. I'm betting it would work. Over the years the bikes got flatter primarily from the seat/tank and then the big jump in '07 with the new subframe.

If anyone is set on keeping their older GG and willing to invest a few bucks, smart money is in a modern CC fork swap. Like night and day.

Im wondering maybe they dont advertise the kit working for the pre 2001 bikes because of the forks? Maybe the fender will not bolt up to the lower clamp and definitley the fork guards won't?

Rad shrouds can be massaged to fit the old tanks, they may need a hole drilled or reamed out a bit to fit. Another reason they don't advertise figment for the older bikes. It is just not a bolt on for some parts.
