04 ec200 girls learner bike? good or bad.....

ok so an 04 ec200 popped up on craigslist, and a good friend of mine wants to get into dirtbikes with her dad. whats your guys opinions on that particular bike for a say 130ish pound girl rider for her first bike. i would be doing alot of the mechanic work and some of the bike setup, and i think if she did get it, we would find her a set of throttle cams and probably tune the jetting for less hit and whatnot to make it easier to ride, but beyond that, whats your opinion on this?

Sounds great in theory. But if she can't put her feet down while sitting don't bother.A low seat crf, klx, ttr is a far better option.

Im 5'5'' and my 200 is fine for me
Like GM said, as long as she can touch the ground she will be fine.
I weigh that much also and have never been found wanting from the engine :D

If she's going to get a 2 stroker i would also recommend a 200 cc because it's a fast and nimble allround enduro bike. But in my humble opininion i think a 250 four stroke is a better learners bike because it's easier to ride and not so scary when you go hard on the throttle.

One bad experiance and she's liable to be done with it for good. I agree that the TTR230 or CRF230 is a much better learning tool and not just because of low seat height. Pick up a used one and sell it after a year if she takes to it and buy her a real bike then.
I have seen wives of 2 friends ditch the sport because hubby started her out on too advanced a machine. A handful of throttle on a GG 200 is going to happen a whole lot faster than on a TTR. Just my thoughts.

im planning on putting on throttle cams, and putting in the 400x, to help avoid any clumsy throttle hand accidents.... plus gasgas doesnt make a 250 4t that she can afford.......

and my girlfriend (the girl looking at the 200 is just a friend of mine from school) started on a ttr230 and hated it because of the weight. shes tall enough for the 200, i just wanted to see what you guys thought of it as a learner bike. ps she is an NRA 22 rifle shooter, so clumsy hands is not a big concern, and like i said, it would be throttle cams before even the first ride. i have throttle cams on my bike (my first btw) and i tried to ride without, and it scared me half to death. so hers will be getting handicapped (at the express wishes of her parents) with such things as cams, and maybe a change of jetting, whatever bike it is, and as she asked my opinion on bikes, i thought i would turn around and ask you guys. she has also been looking at kx 100s. any opinions on those? my girlfriends 2nd bike was a kx100 and she loved it until she got too fast for it and went to a pumpkin 200 :p so ya, i thought the 200 would be good as it shouldn't have quite as much zing and snap as a 125, but would weigh less than a ttr or crf 230.

For a 5'7" 130 pounder, the 200 should be fine. Like stated earlier though, a bike aimed at learners do exactly what they were made to do, and can be very capable as experience grows. Not as cool, or as light as a 200, but capable nonetheless.

you can make it deliver power in just about anyway you want. the 200 can be setup to be quite snappy....

flywheel weight/jetting/throttle cam/gearing can all change the power delivery.... the 200 will teach more clutch control, proper gear selection, etc. just like the 125's.. but with a little more oomph off the bottom.

a little more oomph will help with stalling correct? thats kindof were i was going with the 200. kindof like how the 250 lets me plod around all day at the bottom of the gear without stalling. and ya, id jet it gentle all the way through, just so that she dont kill herself.

Thanks guys for the opinions! i will pass them on and maybe we can get another member here.....
