hi im new to the forum i have just recently bought an 08 ec 250 and when its started from cold and put in gear it makes a horrid clunk, once out riding it can be tricky to put in 3rd gear unless you use your heel and wont start in gear anybody got any idears wot could be causing this ?

Two items I can think of that are not specific to GasGas:
Improperly adjusted lever/improperly bled system. Not having full travel from the lever means that the clutch isn't fully engaged, so parts are fighting each other for space. Check lever free play, there should be very slight movement between loose and engaged. The tip of the lever should move a couple of millimeters, not a couple of centimeters.

Or it could be that your outer basket fingers are notched. When the fingers look like this-

The fiber plates hang up and fail to properly engage/disengage. Pull the cover and look at the fingers if the clutch lever adjustment doesn't help the problem.

That being said, many bikes have an inherent "clunk" when engaging first gear, but it can be excessive or a sign of a worse problem.

Thanks phill ive tryed taking the slack out of the clutch lever but didnt help i will take the clutch cover off tomorrow and have a look do i need to drain the transmission before i do this or can i just lay it on its side and have a peek cheers

You can lay it on its side. No need to drain just to look inside.
