18 ec300 jetting

Hi all,
Since I've had the latest ignition map the NEDW needle I was using that seemed slightly rich now seems a bit lean up to 1/4 throttle. Would like to know what needle to use , was considering trying the standard needle again. Maybe NEDH?
Thanks
Darren

I have a Suzuki NECJ in my 18 GP300. Dunno if that helps due to the different head or not.

Need to find a table of needle specs to work out if it is richer or leaner.

J diameter is leaner than W. Going to a H may help with your issue, or bumping the pilot up a size might too.

What clip position are you in? Have you tried going richer?

If its lean up to 1/4 changing the needle wouldnt change that. You can try to close the air screw 1/4 turn wise or take next bigger pilot jet as Jakobi suggested.

I have the same problem with my std ec300. It work fine before the new mapping. Now i cant get it right. Either it goes very rich or When it goes fine it is detonation

Hi all thanks for your replies.
Had an interesting conversation with a guy here in the UK who looks after the team bikes for gasgas uk. He said they also tried all sorts of different needle's before the map update , but now runs the standard needle and says it's spot on. He said they have been feeding some input back to the factory and from what he's heard they have advanced the ignition curve down low and retarded it further up . So will give the standard needle a try again and see how it is.

With the new mapping I'm running the standard needle in the 2nd pos, 170MJ and 40PJ. 2500' and 60 - 80 degs F.

Its still a little rich off the bottom. Think I'm going to put in a 38 pilot. Its so dry here if we had some more humidity the 40 may be fine but I'm talking 5% humidity.

The pilot jet isn't your problem.

The stock needle, its short straight section and the rich F diameter of said straight section is the rich condition you are feeling. Odds are that the idle screw is wound in so far that the pilot and airscrew are just about being bypassed.

Also, adding humidity would make your engine run richer. Dense cold air requires more fuel. Thin that air out due to increasing water content (humidity) or increasing elevation and you'll need to reduce the fuel component.

I think you're right. Im open to suggestions.

Hi all, tried the standard needle after the remap with175m /42p and it didn't seem too bad other than an overly rich blubber 1/8-1/4 throttle. Tried NEDH 3rd clip and it really cleaned up 1/8-1/4 but maybe bit lean 1/2 throttle as the power valve opens , need to test 4th clip or try NECH 4th clip . Ran well with NEDW before the remap but after suffered with hanging idle and detonation on deceleration after.

I just installed a N3CH 2nd clip, 178 main, and 42 pilot. AS 1.5 , 2500' and 70 to 90 degrees. It was 106 degs when i tried it this afternoon. Too hot to ride. Ill try it again tomorrow morning and get a plug reading.

Ran this jetting today and its still fat on the bottom. Took A/S out to 2 turns, still lethargic right off the bottom but pulls through the lower mid up to the top really well. Im going to throw in a 40 and see how it does.

So far it's still fat but it's also hot as hell. Tried 175mj NEDJ 3rd clip and 42 pilot. Still fat off the bottom, clean on the mid but seemed a little loaded up to pull the main at first, then cleaned out. Needle feels good though. Plug dry but dark. Dropped pilot to 40 and main to 172. See how that goes.

I'm running the same pilot and main in my 250 right now, with a NEDW#2. I could probably go a tad leaner, but I will run this until the head/squish is cut. Yes, it is hot. Get up to the Bradshaws when you can...
