Hey everyone :) Sorry if i am revisiting an old thread...I am having a starting issue with my 450...have tried every way possible to start (wot, key on off, hold tongue to the right :p )..It will start, after 10 - 15 mins of stuffing around. ends up being WOT to start. Pull out spark plug and its wet every time, have gone through a few spark plugs in a few days, its starting to become expensive. Once started it runs perfect, idles straight away, no black smoke. Valves are in spec, compression is healthy and has got good spark. Its turning over much quicker than my 400 i used to own and it started good. Its getting fuel....plenty ;) Just wondering what could be causing it to pour in excessive fuel on cold startup, to the point where its fouling plugs? cheers.

yeah, due to previous issues with high octane fuels density causing issues with starting I only use 91 octane and yes its fresh :)

problem solved!

hey everyone, pulled plug out this morning, turned over GG for the first time in a couple of days and coolant shot everywhere! must have been a very slow leak, as it wasnt present when compression tested or caused oil to go milky etc. pulled off head and obvious leak on left hand front side of head gasket. hopefully will start better when head is back on ;)

How easy is a 450 head gasket to do! so simple, these things are a pleasure to work on :)
runs perfect now, starts like its new again. thanks for suggestions :)

Hi there rodneymj!

What type of material did you made the head gasket of?
Isn?t made of aluminium?

I have a -06 450 and need to change valve sealents.
