Found one of these for my son. By pics it looks good, and owner says 30 hrs, which I think is BS. Anyway, I will check it out unless any of you guys here can give me a reason to pass and wait for a YZ. I just don't know much about the small Hondas. Thanks Guys!

Yamaha's had a much broader powerband, much better suspension, equal or better brakes and are still being made - go blue.

In the right condition, and for the right price, all the 125's were plenty good. I would certainly go for condition over brand.

I just picked up a 2002 CR125 for my Nephew. Its CLEAN, came with a ton of extras too. Was hoping to find a clean YZ125 but I paid way less than half of what 2005 YZ's were going for.

He is planning on riding with us at the local MX track, but has no intention of racing. So the CR's hadicaps compared to a YZ were less of an issue. If he decides to race later, we will be looking for a KTM SX150 or a 250F of some description.

Thanks guys. This will be both for trail and harescrambles in the Schoolboy class. At this point, a sound bike is most important. The kid is not that serious and anything decent will work. He rode an 85 up hills that give guys on big bikes fits, so this will seem like a 450 to him. I'm going to try and check it out this week.

I know a guy who ran a cr125 in ECEA enduro's and highpointed his class more than once(broad mtn).. Bike did not hold him back at all and he rode it many years..

Well the guy never got back to me so maybe its a moot point. I'm pissed at myself for not picking up that GG125 from my brother my nephew used to ride. That was a good bike. The guy who bought it is a member and shows up now and then to whine about it. I offered him what he paid but no response. I had seen his add on CL for THREE TIMES what he paid my brother! No clue.

I have an 07' cr 125 that i bought for my nephew to race in B 200. The bike never held him back, he did very well on it. He no longer races, but I still ride the bike during the week and race my GasGas on the weekends. That little Honda handles better than my 11 xc 250. The bike is not that hard to setup for offroad. I have some little tricks that I use to help the bike with lowend and smoothing out the power that really work and are not that much $. If you do happen to get the bike let me know and i'll give you the run down as to what I have done to it.

MJC,
Thanks I appreciate that. I'll try and contact the guy again.

I know the 02 didnt have the RC valve but is very similar to your 07. What all did you do to make it a bit more friendly ?

I have an ownership and may green plate the CR, we do trail riding as well as the MX track.

Wow, that looks pretty nice. I'll think about that one. I HATE Craigslist. Every 125 is owned by some stupid kid who can't write an ad properly, much less maintain a bike.

I have a friend who has a 2005 yz125 for sale I think he wants about $1400 for it but is in New Mexico.
Let me know if interested.
Thanks
Harold

Thank you Harold. If I go the out of state route, I'd be inclined to stick with dealers that have used bikes they have gone through and refurbed where neccessary. I'd be open to a nice GG200 from a trusted member here too. I like dealing with people I have had, and will have contact with in the future. Here, ECEA, etc. Plus, most are over 16 and can speak/write properly.;)

The 2004 Husky CR125 is a good year from what I heard Kelly @ Motorsportz describe on CafeHusky. Mine is a 2008, so it has the same frame but mine has the newer cylinder... well I should say had since it was bored to a 165. :D

Husky 125's are fantastic little bikes.

Yes they are nice. My brother just came out of off road retirement, and before I could get him on a GG went out and bought a new '12 TXC310.

The only year Honda cr 125 that had the RC electronic valve was 04'.
The first thing that I would do to your 02' is bolt up an 05'-07' air boot.

Here is a list of the things I did to my 07' to make it more off road friendly. I wont mention guards as Im sure you have those. although I did use a TM designs chain guide from and 08 crf250 on the 125. that took about 5 min to make work and looks perfect.

1- 38mm Keihin pwk carb. The stock Mikuni carb is pretty much junk.I got my PWK off of ebay. Mine is from an 01' yz 250. Some of the pwk's are 90mm long(screw on tops) and some are 75mm( squareish top and the top is held on by 2 screws). Your 02' would want the 90mm screw on top PWK. The, I believe 03-07 cr's both 125 and 250's use a 75mm length carb. With that said you can just buy a PWK carb right from JD jetting, but I don't like his jetting specs for offroad. If you do buy a used carb the power jet has to be plugged. It takes about 5 minutes and some Quick Steel, or the correct size plug, I got mine froms Lowes hardware. I'll give you my jetting specs for here in upstste NY. The Needle is an NEDG form a late model Suzuki 250, 42 pilot and a 178 main. That jetting really smooths out the power and makes the bike much more friendly on the trails. With the Keihin carb the jetting is very flexable and easy to manipulate. I also have jetting for MX use that is different.

The next thing I did was put spacers in the exaust pipe, or you can weld them on to the exhaust spigot. I wound up with 11mm as about the best compromise. They do effect the topend somewhat, but they really work for improving lowend power and response. I made my own, but you can buy them from mxbonz.com I also have an FMF pipe that I tried them on ,but I like the stock pipe better.

Send the head out to get the squish set and bowl shaped. I had mine set to 1mm. That will still allow you to use pump gas. This mod also improved the lowend response quite a bit.

I use a 13-53 sprocket combo. Use a light weight steel(ironman) or an aluminum rear sprocket. I could actually feel the difference between a heavy steel sprocket and the lighter one.

Send the suspension to your place of choice and have at it. This has been a really fun and reliable bike to ride since I replaced the the stock carb for the PWK. I'm going to keep this bike for a while it's just sooo light weight and fun to ride compared to my Gasser.
