I am picking this bike up on Friday. Any advice, opinions, etc., anybody care to share about it? I also own a Gas Gas trials bike but it is much older.

Thanks!

This pic is at the owners house, I'll get better ones once I get it home.

congrats, and hello. Nice looking bike seems to just need a rider.
I'd check the water pump impeller.. guy's any thing else??

that pipe looks so nice and clean, best fit a P3 guard on it if you riding rocks, and check the rollers on your chain guide if you have that type

I think the '10 GG with the black/red is one of the best looking years. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Where are you located?

SW Pa about an hour SE of Pittsburgh.

Thanks for the tips folks. I'll check those things out. I was already scoping out pipe guards :D .

Depending on what the previous owner had done, there are a few things you'd want to check/modify to improve the bike.

Engine wise - Squish adjustment. Stock clearances are huge. Someone like Mikes Cycle Playground or RB Mods will do a good job and be able to provide more info. Someone else suggested checking the clearance on the water pump cover. Probably not a bad idea to pull the RHS cover and check the PV tension at the same time. Once the heads setup the bike will be much easier to jet. Lots of recommendations but being a 2010 model you'll need to confirm which series carb is in it. Those sachs forks have a pretty harsh mid stroke spike which any decent tuner should be able to clear up for you.

My 2010 model has racked up 260hrs/8000kms all without any issue and with nothing more than a bit of maintenance. Pistons every 80-100hrs. Like Fred said, great bikes!

The previous owner told me this:

"Mods are suspension setup for 210lb rider, head re-machined, guts seat."

What he means by head re-machined I don't know exactly. I will ask him next time I see him.

Picked it up tonight. It's a friend of mine and he said he would wash it. This is his idea of clean LOL.

He gave me the stock seat foam/cover, the stock handguards, the manuals, and the Gas Gas fanny pack/tool pouch.

Edit: Forgot it has radiator braces on it too.

You've got an AS-1 carb - dig through the archives here and see what works for jetting. If that doesn't work, you could just do what everybody else does and ask Jake ;)

Find out if the "suspension set-up" was just springs or a re-valve as well. We have a decent tune for the Sachs forks that takes out the mid-stroke harshness.

If the chain guide is done or close to it consider replacing it with a TM Designs slider type.

Check the gearing. Most guys like a 13/50 combo to slightly tighten the box and allow you to run 2-3 shifts instead of through neutral on the 1-2s.

The radiators have been the same since '07 I believe, so if you wanted to you could run a 1.8bar rad cap and a cross-over and ditch the expansion tank.

Take a look under the seat and make sure the ribs aren't biting into the top of your filter. While you're there check to see if the flash line was trimmed off the filter seating surface.

Make sure your toolbox still has the 11, 13,15, and 18mm tools - you'll need every one of them :D

Mix up some gas and go ride!

Yes, Steve really analyzed that pic. Best needle for AS1 on a 250 in PA is a JD Blue, with a NECF not far back. JD a little more mid hit, NECF a little less mid and smoother.

Looks good, but,,,

Bike looks good, but needs thoroughly cleaned and inspected.

However, the dog needs more up-keep.

American Pit-bull terriers require less cleaning, but much more input.

Working with my 32nd off-road bike (2011 EC300E), and my 5th APBT home security dog.

About the same amount of work, over-all!

Steve

..just wondering about the ergos of the 2010. Are there a couple of handlebar positions on the triple clamp? Or is it just one? Is the bike bigger or generaly the same as the earlier year gasgas ec's?..Thanks ahead of time. Oh and congratulations! That bike is beautiful!

Thanks for the great info guys.

He told me the suspension was sent off to be re-worked, not just springs. He told me he bought the bike from a member here, anybody recognize it?

It has a Husky rear sprocket on it but I am not sure what gearing it is yet. I'll check.

The tool kit does still have those tools. I used to be a motorcycle mechanic years ago so I have a good set of tools but it's always nice to get the OEM kit with a bike.

I am an adult student in EET and this is my last week. So this weekend I plan to give it a good cleaning and I will pull the seat and check that stuff out.

i have had my 2010 ec250 for a year and love it i have had close to 30+ race bikes in 25 years and this has been the best one to date. in the year i have had it i have done 13 enduro races with it and ride 1-2 times a week. only problems i have had are repeated rear wheel bearings, broken kickstand and chain roller bracket, brake pedal bracket, lower steering head bearing race loose in the frame. the forks on these are horrible at race pace but its an easy kyb swap. still with all that it is still the best handling funnest bike i have ever had ones i did the kyb swap.

The only Gas Gas I can compare it to is my trials bike so that won't be very helpful haha. I am 5'10" and it fits me very well. It feels a little small for a 250 but I like that. It's one thing I loved about my old KDX200.

Hardened wheel spacer on the sprocket side, and a clean and regrease of the seals will keep the wheel bearings alive for years.

desert rider,

Damn your dog looks like one of my APBTs. He lives for getting air over tennis balls. Love pits, can't resist a pic. Ever try and mount a GoPro on one?
