2011 Gas Gas EC300 vs 300 six days?

Had the chance to jump off my 2011 Gas Gas EC300 e start and onto a '11 GG 300 six days on the weekend.

Aside from the obvious differences - different forks (red cap on top closed chamber?) and ohlins shock, and 38mm carb (wow big difference in top end compared to my 36mm. Though my bottom end was way better) what are the differences if any between them.

Reason I ask is whilst the seat to bars felt very similar the pegs to seat is noticeably different. We both running stock seats, he runs stock pegs and I have pivot legs but they are stock height.
My pegs feel low and are in fact low as demonstrated by my feet getting ripped off them through ruts. The six days pegs felt higher. Almost KTM ish. I liked it I would have more confidence going through ruts and past stumps on that bike.
We put the bikes side to side and sure enough his ground clearance is at least one inch more then mine. The top of my pegs are level with the bottom of his pegs. His bottom chassis rails are also about one inch higher.

So is there a chassis difference to explain this difference? Could it be the different suspension? The six days suspension is completely stock. I am running Sachs front and rear with heavier springs for my weight.

I'd love to know what the difference is because I want my chassis and footpegs to be that height.
 
The chasis is the exact same. Not sure why it felt so different. The engine is very likely the same animal too (with exception to the carb). They may have set the port timing to bias top end (as they did with my 2010 Euro). The red caps on the fork aren't CC. Its an external preload adjuster.

Its interesting that you report them feeling so different. Do you know how the other bike had been jetted? If it had been modified in any way? Was this comparing to your bike before you had the new head fitted? I'd personally think that a 36mm carb would inhibit the top end of a 300 a fair bit.
 
ive ridden the 300 e and the sixdays back to back(my buddies both have one) they are identical so im confused at the differences you noticed. the bikes are jetted the same with the same carb and the bikes react exactly the same. jakes right there both open cartridge as i had the sixdays fork apart last week. has anything been modified with the rear end??? a 1" difference in peg height is alot
 
The six days bike is completely stock as delivered by the Australian importer (he had it sent by the importer direct to his nearest bike shop)

Re the power yes they felt similar however mine had a stronger bottom end, his was still pretty good but had that typical 2 stroke powerband hit as it came onto the pipe. Purely jetting related with his stronger top end also being related to a 38mm carb I'm sure. He is about to start toying with jetting I've advised him to join up here for advice.

The chassis looked identical but when compared side to side his ground clearance was definately 1 inch higher. I was thinking it could be the difference between ohlins rear and Sachs rear as mine seems to sit lower at the back. My sag has been set and is good. His hasn't been so maybe it just says less then mine.

What that doesn't explain though is the different feeling of footpegs to seat. His footpegs feel higher/closer to the seat. When i sat it was noticeable and also when I stood I felt I was standing taller then on mine. Peg ground clearance felt higher too. Very curious considering they are the same chassis.

I may take to a tape measure and measure my static ground and peg clearance and then measure height from pegs to seat. Then I'll ask him to do the same. Can anyone else on here do the same, I'd be interested in the results.
 
My Six Days is 16" from floor to top of peg sitting static. From top of peg to top of seat is 21"
 
I'll pull some figures off mine for you too Nath. Its a 2010 model but uses the same chasis. The different brands of pegs could mount up differently. A few mm here could feel a lot more. I notice massive differences in using the rear brake going from stock pegs to power pegs (old school pivot pegs) and now the Talons I have on there. Never really gave a thought to the seat to peg relationship, but my experiences does indicate a change in height from one brand to the next.

Regarding the clearance it could also be sag related. His shock may be running alot of preload, or running more comp holding it up in the stroke more. You'd notice a lot of difference in handling between the bikes like this too, particularly how well it turns and how well they hook up under the throttle.

2010 Euro. 16" /40-41cm from floor to the top of the peg. Static sag. Seat wasn't on the bike so I didn't measure that.
 
My 2011 EC 300. Static sag the top of pegs are 390mm / 15.35 inches above the ground. Measurement from top of the pegs to top of seat is 545mm / 21.45 inches
 
I'll also add that there is no noticeable difference between the pivot pegs and std pegs so I don't believe it's that.
 
They sound the same to me mate! Get your mate to measure his. There will always be a little difference in the ground to peg based on the static sag you run too. For my measurement of 400mm the bike had no air filter, silencer, tank, or seat on it. I'd expect it to sag 10mm more once assembled.

Mine as measured was intact although without air filter and with empty fuel tank.

Yep they are very similar huh. Hmm maybe I was imagining things. He is measuring for me tomorrow so that will be the confirmation though I reckon I already know what his measurements will be. :confused: :rolleyes:
 
Mine was tank empty, slightly uneven floor too so that could explain the 16" top of peg measurement.
 
The six days I rode measures 410mm / 16.14 inches from the ground to the top of the pegs. From the top of the pegs to the top of the seat is 545mm / 21.45 inches. So yep I guess I imagined it haha.
 
Might have been all in the handlebars?? The Renthal Twin walls sit up rather high and are mighty rigid too.
