2011 xc 300 odo/speedometer ?

Troy,

I'm on their website and I do not see any listing for Gas Gas.

Your right Bob

This is an example...but I didnt order from this place http://www.cyclebuy.com/shopping/trailtech/computers_vector-misc.htm

The correct number is 85-102 A very knowledgeable person at the parts place I deal with did the math and figured out that the unit for the KTM 00 -10 and Bergs 09-11 is the same for GAS GAS

plugs right in...no cutting for 2011 is all I can say

you will need to select your preferred units and input your correct O.D of your front wheel...but that is a given

Mine is the E-start version. I hope it's the same where I can plug it in.

Thanks

Hey Bob...which computer are you going to go with.....I notice the vapor has a sweep tach

I would be willing to bet the E start version will pose no trouble for the install and is the same....

did you check out the cool mounting protector brackets you can buy there....kinda pricey.....but gives a clean look

Troy, could you please identify the connectors in the picture you supplied. I think the power connector on mine is a red wire and a yellow with green stripe (very small square connector). Seems like all the ground (earth) wires are yellow with a green stripe. It's very small. I also have the same size (small) square connector with a single white wire with a blue stripe. Looks like you have one also. What is that for?

I need to look at the diagrams that came with my bike, although they look like they are for the six days model.

More on my choices of trail tech later.

Using the stock plastic mount included with the trailtech's is not a good idea- the clamp breaks/fatigues quite easily.
But let's get back to the real question (and i hope it is answered by the time my XC300e gets here:)). Why are they shipping an enduro bike without the enduro computor? I really don't mind not getting the turn signals- but come on!!!

It's really pretty simple.....The bikes are street legal in Spain so they come with full lighting and a TT computer. We can not bring them into the US as street legal units because they do not meet EPA emissions requirements. We tell them to take the street legal stuff and TO REDUCE THE PRICE ACCORDINGLY. If they come with a computer of any kind, the price will go up. Not everyone wants one. If they come with one, mine will come off immediately. You get a light and spark arrestor form GG but not from KTM. I think we still offer a better package.

Yes you do.

Troy, I saw that RPM sweep on the Vapor and initially I was intrigued by it but I got to thinking it would be distracting and not as useful as I initially thought. I think I'll go with the Vector because it has a non-resettable odometer which is technically necessary to be legal in Pennsylvania. This bike is going to be marginally legal at best so it's not a big deal but since I don't think I'll like the RPM sweep that much I might as well go with the Vector. I plan on buying some sort of aluminum protector which doubles as a mount I suppose.

Troy, sorry to keep tying you up with posts but I looked at the wiring diagram that came on a CD with my bike. It is indeed a six days model diagram but I was able to gather useful info from it anyway. The diagram agrees with you about wire color but my bike does not. Doesn't matter since it's fairly obvious what's what. The single wire is for the Tach so what I see is one connector for power, one connector for Tach and one connector for speed sensor. The diagram shows an unused connector on the computer and upon further examination of your photos it looks like you have one that's not plugged in also. Do you know what that one is for?

EDIT: Looked at Trail Tech's website. Looks like the extra connector is for the remote switch assembly. I think I have all my answers now.

Yes there is one that is vacant...I believe that is for remote switch

red and black bike side 2 way is power and ground..plugs into red and white on TT
NOTE With a battery(e start)there is a pigtail on the TT that connects directly to the battery posts.......it can even be installed backwards as the TT is polarity independant...if your unsure you can go right off the battery......but it still might be easier plug to a power wire at the head stock

red and white 2 way is for speed sensor......plugs into red and white on TT

and another red and white 2way is for temp sensor....also plugs into a red and white

NOTE all the connectors only plug in one way...you cant screw them up

if you buy the OE type TT Vapor is has a single yellow wire connector for the tach ...and it plugs into the blue wire on bike side...but that wont apply on a Vector

Agree with you Clay

and the bike is pre wired for those that wish to install one.....cant get better than that

+1 Clay. I like the way you think.

We all have a personal interest in what we run for a computer. I run an ICO when competing in Timekeeper enduros or helping set up one. What Gas Gas bikes have come with in the past are useless to me so they get pulled right off.
Looking back, my 2004 stock Gas Gas computer I could not change the readout to miles and I still have the Trailtech I got with my 2006 just sitting in a box.

I think its awesome all the add ons are plug and play! Makes it easier for those that want the add ons.

I agree 100%

This for me was a real big selling point. I once converted a bike to street legal by purchasing a Baja Designs kit. It was "plug and play" to a certain degree but was still a major PITA. I ended up with almost $600 in it too. All I'm going to have in my GG is about $150 to add the tail light and speedo and it's the definition of "plug and play".

Big win over the Orange bike too.

I'm sure I have at least ten of the KTM odo/computers in a box in my shop. i wish I could sell some of the damn things. I always pulled those off when I got a new bike. We all need to remember that everything that gets added to a bike adds to the cost of the bike.
Thanks for all of the comments.

Speedo

I would be more then happy to buy someones leftover Speedo. First choice is the GG model bit I'd take a KTM unit also

All I need is one that shows miles per hour.

This thread has been idle for a while, but has the exact info I've been looking for. I was questioning why the speedo's and tail lights were being pulled off the bikes by the factory. Blinkers I can understand. I feel better at least knowing we are getting a price break without the speedo.

I like the unit that my KTM uses, so I'm surprised people pull them off. They are small and tucked in out of the way very nicely. The permanent hour meter is great for monitoring engine service intervals and the trip meter for events with route sheets, and the speedo for mph on tar sections. I also use a stop watch on the bars for timing laps and the OEM Vapor has one.

I just ordered an OEM unit with the clamp, but I question the factory mounting. It's pretty close to the number plate and one good rock in the right spot and its toast. I'll need to come up with some protection for it. The TT pivot clamp does look pretty neat, but vulnerable.

The plug and play is a wonderful thing.

Gasser computer

Yes Indeed, the bikes should come with a computer, what does this have
with anything to do to make the bike legal ?, I know that I can tell by
my odo when i need fuel. That's an enduro rider for ya.... Don't really
give a rat's ass what anyone else says..... :D

I believe Bob 250 has the triple clamp surround type mount where the TT is housed inside and I saw a pic of it somewhere.....that is the best solution IMO

maybe someone can post a pic

Yes I did mount it in a protector. I also chose to mount it up top of the bars instead of down in behind the number plate. Seemed pretty crowded down there and harder to see IMO.
