2012 ec300r safe temp?

Has your header turned blue? How did the piston look when you had the jug off? Why not pull the head and check the piston wash. Should be pretty easily seen if it's running that hot/lean.

The only time I've boiled a Gasser is cutting goat trails. Constant 1st/2nd clutch abuse with next to no air flow, coupled with testing half a clip leaner than my ideal setting.

If you feel the engine is over heating and the coolant isn't I'd be checking the impellor. There was a recall on the 2012 models where there was insufficient clearance between the housing and impellor which could cause failures. Ideally pop the outer housing first and if it's not working as it should remove the rhs engine cover to replace. Avoid cranking on the impellor bolt too much as it's only a plastic gear on the other side which will be taking the torque you put into it.

My Subaru

You have to use a lisle type funnel, Subaru coolant and a small blue bottle of Subaru coolant additive. You fill up the rad 50/50 mix coolant distilled water, put on the funnel, fill the funnel with a couple inches of coolant, start car, turn on heater, let idle for about 15 minutes. As the car idles, watch for air bubbles escaping from the coolant in the funnel, when no more air bubbles come out you are done. Don't get too close to the funnel bc the hot coolant is under pressure and it can scald you.

If you don't follow this procedure using this coolant and additive you will cook a head gasket on the Soobies.

I wish my bike ran at 160. My plug is a rich brown, maybe too rich. I have the checkpoint impeller, no fan, and run yamacool. The Voyager shows 170's in 70 degree weather riding at 40mph avg on levelish ground. Climbing tight canyons, no airflow, first gear at 5mph runs low 200's, like 210 to 220 for prolonged periods, sometimes 230. Always been that way, bike seems to be fine, runs fine. Never boils over, never lose coolant. Never any in the catch tank. I think my autoclutch adds to the overall engine temp.

My buddy's 11 EC300 hits 230 routinely and sometimes 240 riding tight, slow terrain... He uses engine ice....but again never boils over.

I've used my infrared thermometer to confirm the voyager temp. Wondering, if your bike seems to be hotter than the gauge reads, maybe confirm the gauge is accurate.

My 2011 runs just about like this as well. When it gets over 200 degrees I take it easy and try to get some air through the rads and its cools down quickly.

I'm really needing the info on what year and model KTM rad cap will fit my bike please. Lots of u guys seem to have the KTM caps, seems like a good investment to me. I'm looking into picking one up asap, if I can get the info from you guys please  I don't have a local Gasser dealer, but do have a near by ktm dealer. Thanx.

Radiator caps are not make/model specific. One cap will fit all Japanese bikes (this I know for a fact). If KTM is still making radiators for Gas Gas (I cannot verify), then any rad cap from any year KTM would work.

Just pick a year and model to appease the KTM parts guy (they only understand parts by number, or by make and model), pick a pressure capacity, and you are done.

Are you sure? I read a post on a similar thread about the caps. Someone that owned both a gasser and a ktm said that his ktm cap wouldn't fit his gasser. I would hate to order a cap that won't work on my bike.

KTM rad cap fit on my 05 with no issue. I cannot verify fitment on your bike.

Your 2012 should alreAdy have the 1.8 cap on it which is the same as a KTM. But as stated earlier any KTM cap will fit your bike. Actually most KTM radiators will fit your bike if I'm not mistaken.

Have you checked the thermostat to see if it is opening , I took mine out and run coolers in the long top hoses , check it buy removing it and drop it in boiling water , if it does not open or only opens a bit throw it away and either replace it or just do with out it I have a 2012 300 and it has. 1.8 cap as well , if cap is faulty you will be loosing coolant out overflow and you will notice it hope this helps !!
