Hi guys
Been away from bikes for a while and the last one was an ec200 05, great bike but a touch heavy, now Im able to go riding again (enduro) Im looking for a bike, a 2012 ec250racing has been offered as hardly used, in the pics the guy sent it looks awesone but Id like some feedback on this model please, good/bad points and any issues its got. Also could anyone whos rode one compare it to the 300, as Ive heard the 250 is a lot more aggresive and a handfull in rocks/woods

Never had a bike over 200cc but as the years pass I feel I need more motor to replace the dwinderling energy and fitness from the pilot !!! If the 300 is smoother that may be the better option for me TBH.

So whats the lowdown on the ec250 racing 12
Cheers guys

Have had a 2012 since new, with well over 200 hrs on it now. It's been pretty darn reliable, although the e-start wiring and actuation is a bit wonky occasionally, but it's not a big deal, as I just reach for the kicker then instead.
The 300's are more of a handful than the 250's as a 300 will often point the front wheel skyward when you don't plan for it. My 250 almost never does that, and never does it on the 'wet' setting.
The 250 can be whatever you want, a total pussycat, or a snarling tiger- what you want, when you want it. It will tractor up hills, although not quite as good as a 300, but still it has saved my bacon many times.
I only ride sandy loam woods with occasional rides in the rocks.
A 250 is the best of both worlds between a 200 and a 300.
The 2012 and up chassis are one of the most planted and neutral rides out there. It holds a line like nothing else. Sherco is the only one that comes close IMO.
This bike has been one of the best I've ever rode. I'm glad GG is back in business, as I'd like to replace it with a newer one in a year or two.

I totally agree with 3beejay3, racked up a lot of miles on mine with no problems. It's a touch heavy, but that's a good thing at times. The 300 is a handful for me. Bought mine for spare parts for my race bike but haven't needed any. As you can see I liked it enough to buy a 15

hamilton,
How does the 15 compare to the 12?

Well the 15 is a step up, lots of small improvements, e start, seat foam, kick stand bolt, adjustable power valve, speedo, subframe, v4 reeds, etc. handling wise it's more nimble but stable, the reiger shock is great. Engine wise it has a strong mid and top end, little soft on bottom compared with my 12 but I installed a fmf pipe and over size pv cover on the 12 before ever riding it. Don't have any regrets with buying it either.

Thanks

Thanks guys
Im going for this bike anyway as my 200 was awesome and this 12 looks super good, are there any things to watchout for ? Hopefully get my hands on it next Sunday, then have a week to prep it for my first outing of the year

I've not had the chance to own/ride a 200 so can't comment on how they compare. I have had both 300's and 250's though (stock and modified) and agree with Hamilton that I personally found the 300 a bit of a handful.

The 250 has a more aggressive transition onto the pipe and pulls faster when singing, but the 300 pulls harder sooner (lower in the rpm) and then kind of just does continues. I love the character of the 250. It can be chugged and lugged around OK. It loves to be ridden hard. The 300 loved to be chugged, and was hard work to ride hard.

You'll feel the weight in the 12+ chassis when lifting the bike. In motion its a great ride. Haven't missed my 10' model in 5000km of mostly single tracks.

?

Is there any obvious differences between say an 11 and 12, ones I can identify year by as I have bought bikes claiming to be newer only to find out their a year or two older. As I know very little about Gg's, is there anything to look at for year conformation

Cheers

The chassis changed a lot from 11 to 12. Just take a look at the Gasgas website for pictures. Look at the frames. There are a lot of changes that's easy to spot.

2011 had radiator shrouds that ended at the airbox, 2012 shrouds continue to the rear fender. I believe there are slots in the 2012 frame stanchions above the footpeg, whereas the 2011 has double-round frame stanchions with plastic covers.

Do the 2sts still have large squish measurements ?

My 05 200 came with a huge 2.8mm

And what is the black coating on the swingarms, paint/decal/powdercoat ??

Regards

Chris

Yes, check the squish, water pump impeller, black coating seems to be Paint, mine is starting to flake.

Just had a few pictures emailed to me by seller and theres quite a bit of the black coating missing. Whats the impeller issue ?

Chris

Clearance issues, may or may not be rubbing. I had to modify both of my '12's. Plan to open up the '15 soon and see if anything needs attention.Hope not though.
