might hit an enduro tomorrow that is 45 miles to gas.
what kind of range have you guys been getting out of a tank.
There is a gas drop for small tank guys before the main gas. ( you gotta do the drop off yourself) The safe thing to do is put a gallon there anyway but .... Would be nice if I could avoid it ..... bike is jetted on the lean side .. my riding can vary between gear down and on the pipe (125 like) to gear up and off the pipe. tight stuff I'll gear down, the more open stuff I'll gear up

I think I would drop the gallon off at the auxillary gas. 45 miles on the '11 tank is cutting it close.

If you haven't adjusted your float height and/or modded your head, then you may need the gas. I raced 56 mi. between pitting at the VCGP last month and never hit reserve. Jetted for 5k feet and 70 F:
38 pilot
N3CH #2
172 main
Float at approx 8-8.5mm (up from the stock 6.5)
* I also have head mod by RB Designs*

note: for those that think the Gassers have a small tank, the new Orange bikes are the same size at 9.5L...

Ando, I also find the clip pos makes a huge difference in fuel economy. I was getting the same milage as you out of my 300 using the same settings. The 250 needs richer jetting and so far it looks like its going to drink a little bit more. In saying that the little rides I have done have consisted of slow and technical trail with big throttle and lots of clutch and a bit of time with the bike beyond the limits of the bowl so its hard to judge. I'm guessing I'll be hitting reserve around 80kms now, where previously I would do 70kms and only need between 5 and 6L to fill her up again.

You could always mount up a MSR fuel bottle somewhere on the bike or in your fannypack or backpack.. they can give you the little insurance of making it to the gas stop..
May get you an extra 5 miles from the 33oz bottle.. or the 1 mile if thats where you run dry..

I carry a 1L bottle in the backpack (just an old oil bottle). It helps a bit but I would rather have better economy from the bike and then use the extra litre as a back up than a neccessity. I'll just have to wait and see how the fuel goes once out on the trail with some real mixed riding.

Two weeks ago at a H/S I went 33 miles before having to put the bike(11 '250xc) on reserve, and then another 6 mile on reserve. There was less than 1/4 of a cup of fuel in the tank after driving it back to my trailer. I could not have gone another 1/4 of a mile before it would have been bone dry. I could not find my gas can that I had put in the woods on the 3rd lap. I was pissed and took a chance. It payed off. I won the race.

65kms.. 9.5L.. Thirsty bike!! Hope the head mod helps.

Glenn, what range do you get out of yours?

45 miles is not uncommon and no problem for me. I can go even longer at a trail riding pace. This particular bike has always been a sweetheart, set up easy and runs hard with no issues. My '03 was a lot more thirsty, even with similar jetting and a head mod, just the way it was. My '00 was good like the '07.

Sorry

Caught this thread after the race, The Gas available stop is just 2 miles from the start and on the way. I droped a gallon there yesterday for my 2011 300 jetted pretty lean with a low float, It would have been real close if I did not use it.

When i was trail riding the other week i got 55 mile for 6.5 ltr , it was a easy ride with a few good blasts and 50/50 road and trail.

not that its a 250, but for info...ran 37 miles this past weekend (1hr 52 mins) at National HS race. I added 1 gal (to be safe) half way through and have not drained back out yet to see how much left, but it looks like I didn't have to fuel up based on whats in the tank. It would have saved me 45 seconds (i know long fuel stop...lol) on the 03 gg200.
No head mod & she runs on the rich side. Coarse was mostly tight, twisty, woods second gear stuff.

I was in "Bikes" Sen. A

Not the best results, but am happy as first race back from injury that I was able to finish. should get stronger from here on out (hope so..lol) as I get used to my little GG & back on track.

There were 4 GG's there racing with one GG finishing 1st in School Boy C. I should of taken a pic of his blacked out GG (Looked cool). had to do a double take to see that it was one..lol. I don't know if he had black plastics or was painted black? (didn't get close enough to see).

ps... INDY MOTO is at every race and is doing a good job supporting the GG line.

I asked since there was a big HS around the corner from my house yesterday at blue mountain.. just checking if you were in my back yard..

After adjusting the float, I get almost exactly 40 miles of hard, single track bashing with the '11 before hitting reserve. Before adjusting the float, I couldn't go 40 miles WITH reserve.
