I have the chance to buy a '97 EC200 for about $600-700. Can anyone give me some feedback on this year and model? Good, bad, or whatever? Anything I should look out for other then normal off road bike stuff?

Thanks,
Perry

For $600-700 if it's in reasonable shape, I vote go for it. Even if it's not in great shape, it would make a fun project.

I have a 97 250, if I ever get around to fixing her up and putting some inverted forks on, I doubt I would ride my 03 250.

Ec200?

OK, I haven't seen the bike yet. I looking in the GG museum and saw that the first 200 is listed as a '99. Anything anyone can tell me about a '99 200? Same question, good, bad, whatever? Also, when I do get a good look at the bike, where will I find the size? On the cylinder, case, top, bottom, left, right where? I found the serial number guide for the frame on the GG museum site.

Thanks for everything,
Perry

The displacement of the motor can sometimes be told by the serial number on the motor. although conversion from a 250 to 300 and vice-versa can happen along the way. My guess is that the serial number will start with "ec20" if it is a 200. ???

What is the serial number on the motor? Are you sure it is a 200? Does the bike have conventional marzocchi forks or upside down forks? Can you post a picture of it?

As far as older gasgas bikes go - I have heard of a few issues with crank bearings (need to watch installation of crank seal) and also the transmission has been beefed up over the years. Check the footpeg area and the linkage where it mounts to the frame for any indications of fatigue, etc. These areas were beefed up in 2002 or so.
