Anti ethanol fuel petition AMA Please Sign & Share

Signed but I have zero faith with the AMA accomplishing anything these days. If there was ever an organization that needed a restructure....this is it.

Signed too, thanks for providing the link :)

Personally, I'd like to see it removed from all fuels completely - doesn't offer any benefits.

I signed this awhile ago. But, I agree with Rod that the AMA's chances of exerting any leverage on the issue is slim to nil.

To find locations that sell ethanol free fuel - aka "E0" & "Clear Gas"...

www.pure-gas.org

For me here in oregon - I use the chevron station in North Plains on the way to the coast range (Brown's Camp Riding Area, etc.). There are pumps behind the station with diesel & premium "clear gas".

Here in my little spot of the world, we have ethanol free gasoline only here and there (mostly at boat docks) but all are 87 rated.

Hi Rod,
I know where you live... :-)

The website lists everything from 87 octane to 94 in your state. Your local marina sells 90 octane, you can get 89 octane at a marathon station without trekking to the marina... You can buy 100LL Av Gas from your local airport. I would mix 1 gallon of 100LL in with the 90 octane or the 89 octane clear gas and you will end up with a "very happy mix". The lead in the 100LL will bump the octane in the unleaded portion...

Back in the mid to late 70s - regular switched over to unleaded and premium was still leaded. We could mix the two together and end up with a higher octane than either of them alone - for example mix 87 and 94 octane in a 50/50 mix and end up with 96... the lead in the premium bumped the octane of the unleaded portion of the fuel mix. Later on they cut the lead content in the premium and this didn't work as well...

My ideal mix is 1 gallon of 100LL av gas added to 4 gallons of 94 octane clear gas... happy, happy, happy... But 94 clear gas works well by itself too. If I can't find clear gas - I will mix 100LL with e10 pump gas - 1/4 to 1/3 100LL to cut down percentage of ethanol in the mix.

I remember very well, the days of mixing regular and unleaded. Race gas has never been readily available for me, and this mix was the only thing that kept my IT490 from pinging to death :)

+1 to this and signed as well. I'm fortunate that my father sells 91 octane without Ethanol. He's listed on the site Jeff posted as well (Shameless plug).

+2 All gasoline would be a lot cheaper if there was no ethanol. I have heard estimates of up to $3.50 a gallon to produce ethanol. So why do we have it? Election politics - corn is grown in Iowa - elections start in Iowa. Big money donors like Artcher Daniels Midland (ADM) put millions into campaign coffers so they can get BILLIONS back in subsidies. The law our congress came up with actually mandates that a certain amount of ethanol be purchased from suppliers. This causes the price of 100% gas to be jacked way up at the pump to keep consumers from choosing it instead of the ethanol blend.--Don't believe me? --Then why did the extra you pay for 100% gas at the pump increase as the price of oil dropped way down? Here in Tennessee that extra was @ ten cents a gallon when blended fuel was $3.50 a gallon. Now that blended fuel is $2.40 a gallon it costs 50-70 cents more a gallon to get ethanol free fuel. That's backwards from a consumers point of view. Do the math - if the ethanol in e10 blended fuel was free then 100% gas should only be 24 cents more not 50-70. We are being suckered and billionaires are laughing all the way to the bank.

forgive me for my ignorance but what does ethanol in fuel do exactly and why don't we want it in our bikes?

Ethanol burns a little cooler so it puts out less power and it also absorbs moisture which can cause corrosion. It also goes bad much, much, quicker (3-4 weeks instead of 6-8 months).

Alright thanks :)
