auto clutch. worth it or no?

So it does a way of adjusting the engagement?
It's my understanding from talking to the Rekluse rep that different wedges are available to further adjust engagement if the supplied little springs (that push on the wedges) aren't enough. The clutch comes with 6 hard little springs and 6 soft springs. For the GasGas 250/300 three of each of the little springs are pre-installed. If you don't like the engagement you can switch to all soft springs for a quicker, harder, and lower rpm engagement or all hard springs to soften things up. I think I will go to all soft springs on my 250.
Disengagement is fully and easily adjustable.

YOU won't find one on my bike. I would likely ride better/faster/longer with an automatic tranny and ABS as well but I don't want those on my bike either. Auto clutches, trannies and ABS are all available on quads and side by sides, just sayin.

YOu can also change the balls, the heavier ones will engage differently than the lighter ones. I had one on my gg...but I also ride a zx10R on the street...it made my street clutching skills absolutely horrible.

oh...and I spend some time on a friends nambotin with the new rekluse...I think its the cor exp. Was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to get it on a 300 at all.

I'm with PEB, if I wanted my offroad experience to be easier I'd buy a quad.

That just ain't gonna happen.

I tried 1 of the early Rekluse clutches in a 250 2-stroke & could not get used to it, so I yanked it out & sold it. I haven't tried 1 of the newer 1s, probably won't.

While I respect all opinions, and agree it is a good tool for some, I'm with Berkyboy, Lawman and Paul (PEB). Never felt the love. Plus, the freewheeling downhill backwards option is a big nono for me. The only way I'd get one is if I had to ride a kickstart only 250F or 450F, but that is not going to happen.

The Core EXP uses wedges and little springs instead of balls.

I'd invest in a bike with an e-start long before I'd buy any auto clutch. Hey wait a minute I just did.:D

I agree there is a place for them and even respect those that choose to run them but the "bulldogging video gone bad" posted above says it all for me.

I have to agree with the yes's on this one. I wasn't 100% on the auto clutch until I rode my buddies KTM 300 with the Rekluse EXP 2.0. Once I got used to it, it was nice. Especially after 4 hours of fast, technical single track. My clutch hand was pumped, his....not so much! And you can still use the clutch like it's not any different.

No more bike stalling after taking a digger on steep loose climbs.

This whole free wheeling backwards nonsense...you gotta put it in neutral or hold the clutch in to start the bike so it's gonna roll back anyways.....two words. Front brake!

O.K. my rant is done!

+1
I had the 1st gen. Rekluse on my 06 and had it "free wheel" on me one time. You learn from experience....at least I would hope you would, I did. You learn to cover the front brake closely in a situation like that.
The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

Alright Berkner....I'm calling you out! :)
1. How many miles have you actually put on your new GG250F since you got it in June? Is it even out of the crate yet?
2. There are no hills in MN like the one on the bulldog vid so why are you worried about that. I thot GA was flat until I visited you guys!

I have a Z Start on a 09 KTM 300 (Currently for Sale) and love it. When I get my GG it that will be one of my 1st mods. Even with the Z Start I can use the clutch if I want. While engaged it feels the same...the only time it feels different is if I'm at idle. I personally like not worrying about stalls from breaking or falls and I feel like I'm a much in really technical terrain. I feel like I?m faster and I do enjoy riding more so it?s worth it to me. By the way, don't many of the Enduro Pro's use a Rekluse?

For those that like the challenge of not having an auto clutch... what bikes you are on? Do you consider advancements in suspensions and engines cheating and less of a challenge also?

I started this year racing enduro?s with guys that said they would never have an auto clutch and that they didn?t like them?after the first two races two of those guys put them in their bikes and love them. Not sure what happened? I think the multiple stalls in the first two races changed their minds. So I guess the cost was worth it to them?not to everyone though. It?s funny how much we?ll spend to try to beat a few more guys and milk a little more enjoyment out of riding.

It?s also very important that the clutch is installed and adjusted properly. This may be another reason why some don't like the auto clutch.

many sponsored pros run the rekluse cover, with a manual clutch. you may think it's a rekluse in there, but it's possible it's not.

stalling as not been an issue for me...either way, i did buy an auto clutch - and will try it out once again. maybe it will work for me this time. last time it was not worth it..

O.K. one more rant!

One of the guys I ride with, Mike Damm is a huge trials rider. He swears by an auto clutch on his Ktm 300. Last week riding through "wildcat" he was pullin some stuff off with it that you would see a trials bike doing. I mean jaw dropping crap I just looked at and said, "I'm not going that way!"

No I think I called you out.:D I thoughtthat ATV comment would draw somebody out.:D

We finally uncrated the 250f last week. Maybe got a tank of gas through it with most of that from a demo ride last weekend. People were very impressed.

Getting back to the auto clutch thing, to be honest it just doesn't work for me overall, I guess I like my set up to be more "old school." That doesn't mean it doesn't work for a lot of riders but I'm just not sold on personally using one unless extreme conditions call for it. And if it's that extreme I'll most likely be taking pictures of the event anyway.

Over the years I've spent some time on one here and there, even had a chance to ride a KTM 950 Super Enduro that had one, but as a whole they don't do much for me other than you can scratch your way up a gnarly hillclimb with one a easier, and yes you're right we don't have a lot of elevation changes here in Minnesota, unless its at a ski resort up north.

But for me using one comes at a sacrifice of what makes riding offroad fun and challanging.

But now that I got an e-start thats another thing...how's that for "old school" hypocrisy.:D
