back going out?!

I've been using my IFwave unit 3 times a day for the last couple days,, like the stim unit but runs off a lithium type battery and will run a more complex pattern of stim on four leads. I got it perm from the jeep wreck.. used the stim too much at PT so they got me one for home.. Im moving around a good amount better.. every now and then a misstep will remind me whats going on.. I weened myself off all the drugs except the 800 ibuprofen and I'm running out on a service call for work this morning.. see how that goes.. cant wait till I see the Dr on monday to hear about the MRI... I'm just hoping for good news.. I've been trying to figure out which PT place to go to with my odd work schedule.. leave 5:30am get home some nights at 7-8pm.. should be easy....love the busy season...

Well,, I just got back from the specialist,, said I have arthritis in my back,, and a disc with an issue between L4 and L5.. But He want all my old MRi's to determine how fast its deteriorating.. see if its an issue that need attention right now or down the road.. and for now I have 3 weeks of PT then a re-evaluate and see what is next..Oh.. and no chiro, or dirt bike for next 4 weeks.. Wish I had a street bike right now..

Not good but I guess it could be worse. Seems like all of us have some degree of damage. Any insight into your hand issues? I have the same thing (arthritis/bridged vertebre) higher up my back from getting thrown off a horse 18 yrs ago, but it does not cause me problems. Craig has had good luck with the inversion table, even takes it on the road with him when he travels by car. Hangs like a bat at night.:D To do this though you have to have healthy blood pressure and no known issues. Almost symptom free now and riding the Buell, no dirt bike yet.

Want to buy a Hypermotard?

Done my PT for now,, and for now no going under the knife.. Doc advised against riding the smaller bikes aggressively.. recommended going to a bigger DS or street as he said its just going to get worse and worse.. the narrowing of the canal? not real happy. I tried running my bike as a sumo for the last few weeks and its a no.. It rides too rough on some of the bad maint roads around here.. Wheels should be sold this week.. May sell the 450 once the Hammer run is over.. would really like to make that run,, even if my back is bad.. I have my 97 GG up FS on CL and adv rider for way too much,, not that I want to sell it.. but should.. if it goes for what I'm asking I'd be ok with it.. I'm thinking about a ktm 690 as a big DS or ?? or maybe just picking up a well used FZ1 if the GG sells then selling the 450 for a nice light GG 250ec.. just modern.. so I can play without a 270# beast.. I do like running DS events.. not sure what to do.. getting old sucks but its better than not getting old....

Steve really sorry to hear that. Just an FYI, some of the worst, sharpest jolts I've taken up my back were on my Hyper on the street. Any upright sport or motard bike is going to be rough on the back on choppy roads. I would ride it like a dirt bike and stand up over RR tracks, etc. As you know, I'm not a believer in compromises to the point of riding those huge beasts of road, but what I would suggest is try a Buell Uly for the street if you can find one. The suspension is a lot nicer and they are even supposed to be great two up. Handle dirt roads good too. Later on when I get another road bike that will be a top contender along with the Triumph Tiger. Craig is selling his Husky soon too, still has a numb foot. I'm planning on a '12 GG and will keep the '07 around for awhile for him if he feels better. He can ride his Buell XB9 on the street without problems, as its more lay down than a Uly.

I plan on trying Davids uly out sometime soon.. The mortician in town,, sold his 450 and got a uly.. I just think its too damn big.. been thinking about the 800cc or smaller twins like the triumph or bmw.. just dont know.. want a sit up.. and something that will be fun but not too much fun like the hyper,, that I'd loose my license on..

Uly is big, but on the street who cares? They handle real well and can carry a lot of gear, or even your wife in comfort. Tried that once on the Hyper, that was enough, like riding her on the GasGas. She liked the VRod. Buell made a SM version of the newer frame, I forget the model, but it looked cool. Would be unique. Hypers are very soulful bikes, I really miss it, but honestly the suspension sucks for such a high end bike. If the pavement gets rough the bike gets very confused. The fork has a sealed(crimped) cartridge that cannot be opened and revalved. Thats the kind of thing that pisses me off about Ducatis, The Buell on the other hand, while not very flashy and a bit odd, has much better stock suspension.

Holly I doubt will ever get on the back of my bike,, she hates bikes,, scared of being on one on the street.. just cant see it..

Just to add,, Went out today and rode a bit on the broad mtn,, did most of the usual trails,, skipped the one,, "great lakes trail" as it was expected to be mostly under water due to the extreme rainfall we have had recently.. and truth,, I feel better than when I drive my work truck.. I did have hand and neck issues.. but regardless rode about 1/2 to 3/4 speed and had a great time! weatehr was perfect,, sunny and mid to high 60's.. got back to the house,, and yes rode from and back 10 miles to trail head from the driveway,, to a nice steak sandwich and a great beer..The wife picked up lunch for us.. We called it in from the mountain.. good day!

I rode too. Spent the day torturing my son Shane and his friend in the rocks. Those kids can ride the nastiest stuff I can throw at them on a KX85 and KLX140, although my kid complains a bit. If youth HS courses were slower and tougher, they would do well. Its tough finding smoother and faster trails to practice on.

Steve,

I might take you up on that offer. Leaves over the rocks and hunters will limit my local riding soon. We will be going to the Ridge Riders HS this weekend in Deposit, NY. You planning on the Hammer Run this year?

I'm planning on both days of the hammer,, or should I say hoping for both days.. I see a new specialist the 27th about loosing feelings in my hands.. testing should start right away.. As long as they dont find something that would stop me or my back goes out I'll be there camping in my expansive pop-up in the woods..

I might bring my camper also. Craig not riding means no free hotel room. I'll keep you posted. Yeah it would be cool to bring Shane and Tom out there, just not on that water world trail, that was a mess before all the rain.

I'm still thinking of the Hammer. I'll let you guys know if it's a go later. I hope your back holds up Steve. I feel the more active I am the better my back is and even played 30 min of rugby this summer.

TRX suspension training. Big focus on core strength and stability, which helps prevent back issues.

Did you come down for this last year? it is an epic DS run.. that club does such a great job of it.. and at 650+ riders.. pays the club better than having a race.. no awards.. or check crews..

Ed,

Its like the best trail of a south jersey enduro without the checkpoints. All the good stuff without the deep sand whoops. Really fun, fast trail, not a boring DS thats half blacktop. I don't do many DS runs but this one is a good trail ride like Hancock and not to be missed.

No I didn't go last year. Spoke with some club members at the Classic in NH and they really talked it up good. I just need to make sure the logistics will work for this year.

If you go this year,, look for me,, I have this super huge pop-up trailer,, biggest thing you ever saw.. ok.. its tiny,, one bed and a sofa type thing.. on the back of a jeep wrangler.. but I'll have a cooler full of beer and other refreshments...

I just have to find riding boots.. mine blew out last ride..
