Bearings/Bushings?

Another newb question regarding the shock linkage and swingarrm. I was riding in some fairly wet conditions yesterday and decided to inspect the linkage. The bike is on 01 300 just for reference. I have removed the pull rods and the shock at present. I noticed that all of the parts I removed have bushings not actual bearings. The replacment kits at gofasters mentions bearings. If this is the case can you retrofit the bushings with the bearings? If not is there anything I should be looking for with the bushings, or should I just go ahead and replace them? Thanks Carl.

You should have gease seals, bushings and roller bearings. The roller bearings are pressed into the swingarm and shock rocker.

Hope that helps

Here's some reference pics for ya. (newer model) The best I could find was a break down for a 05. Not sure if your 01 would be the same.

Still has the factory grease on the bearings

I don't remember any bushings in my '00, be it shock ends, link pivot or swingarm. Everything is needle bearings like HuskyDudes picture.

Bearings

What an airhead think I better stick my head out the window for a refill. I pushed harder on one of the bushings and things looked as pictured. Since I have it apart I'm leaning on replacong the works as the grease seals are showing their age and the bearings are a little rough. Thanks for all the help,Carl.

Replace the seals with orings like on the new bikes. Cheaper and seal much better. With new orings, its the best sealed linkage in the business. A good service with moly paste or Castrol Pyroplex Blue will last all year. I used to tear mine down mid season, but I don't even bother anymore based on what I have seen.

i just switched mine from seals to o-rings today. they definitely look like they will seal amazingly well. buy new o-rings and the thin washers. i'm hoping won't need to mess with it all year.

The o-rings,, are they a standard size or GG specific?? I'm going to be working on my 97 swingarm and should change them over when I put the newer swingarm on.. ..

O rings

I'd be interested to know about this as well regarding the o rings and the washers. I have already ordered the rebuild kits from GoFasters which include the seals. Maybe on the next go round I could use the other method.

Standard. I just bought a bag from McMaster. The size is in the manual for the 2005's

Guys,

Standard metric sizes (cross section x ID)

Linkage/swingarm orings : 3.5 x 21

Shock pivot orings : 3.5 x 15

Also, another trick I learned, when using orings on the swingarm, there is a little too much room for them to walk out, as there are no washers there. What I do is use a 1.5 x 21 oring on top of the 3.5 x 21 as a spacer to retain it against the frame boss.

If McMaster does not have these sizes, try Oringsinc or APG (callapg.com).

Shock pivot orings : 3.5 x 15

I can only get 3.53 x 15.47 at a local supplier, other wise I have to order the exact size from the Suppliers out of town and have them shipped.

Will the 3.53 x 15.47 be fine?

I would order the correct size. They are quite a tight fit on the bush a din the linkage. The larger size will not seal on the bush and you may battle to get them into the linkage.

It is easy to take the linkage along to your shop and try one

Can't get exact size from suppliers. Hope this will do. Also is the bushing meant to be longer than the bearing. Anyone got the exact sizes of the bearing and the bushing.

Yes, bushing (inner race) is supposed to be longer than the bearing.
