Brake pads

As per heat shield the previous pads in there had them on, the new ones i purchased did not come with any.

Some pads will not use them because the pad is thicker then the OEM and they will not fit.

Not sure if this bike is testing my patience. Wanted to remove the front brake cylinder cover. Screwdriver fitted nice and snug and when i turned the screwdriver the head just " bored out". Seems to be that previous owner's must have over tightened. The other one came out easily. Looks like i am going to have to MacGyver it out.:(

Kyton,

I just dealt with the same problem after installing new pads. I discovered that my pads were dragging due to a worn out brake pin. It was grooved out where the old pads would ride, and stopped the new pads from backing off when the lever was released.

You may have a different problem, but it is worth checking on and a Moose pin was only $11.00 on Ebay.

No real advise with getting it out now its rounded out, but for these I 'ALWAYS' use an old impact drive and a sharp bit. The sort you hold in place and hit with a hammer. The combination of downward pressure, shock, and twisting all at the same time cracks them easily.

I don't think over tightening is as much as an issue. I've found its pretty easy to start to round them even just when snugging them up with a screwdriver. Soft screws.

had problems today with rear break overheating..With the new pads. maybe it was just the type of race (grasstrack)

I started buying all my brake pads with the pins included. New pins every time. They always notch for me after 2 sets of pads. Witch leads to lots of other problems like stuck calipers or pads, uneven pad wear and over heating rotors.

Thanks good advice. .iv a habit of leaving my foot on the break peddle which more that likely is causing slight friction from the pads.. and I tend to use the rear break alot ..maby a disc upgrade might be on the cards in the future. .
