I saw that pic earlier today and thought it looked awfully big for a 250F. The header pipe even looks big for a 250 or 300.

May look bigger,, but if you compare the pic to his bike in the photo gallery the engine looks the same,, shape of the head matches yamaha wr250.. does not match GG 450 at all,, not even close.. does appear to have a YZ kicker on it.. looks very close,, no where big enough to be a 450.. unless its a yamaha 450? but then the head would look small..

That's the discussion. The WR450 motor that's supposed to be in the 2012 GasGas 450.

Sure is a Yamaha. Looks to be more the size of the 450 than the 250. The pics on gasgas website of the 250F SD shows it uses the GG kick starter still and the clutch cases and cyl do look to be a little smaller.

The frame cradle looks like the 250F/125, it has that upward bend of the lower rails. The larger bikes don't look like that. Has a 450 with a Yamaha motor ever been built yet? I would think they would use the new frame style as a basis for the bike, but who knows anything is possible.

It's the 450 engine from Yamaha on the 11' frame, like the 250F.

The 3rd place of the Basella race went to Jordi Figueras on a 12' 300. Cervantes was fifth after a bad start. He still manage to overtake 55 riders in front of him.
Cervantes won the X-treme test the day before ahead of KTM's Cristobal Guerrero. This is a very good sign over last season where the 250 didn't had much of a chance. GO CERVANTES !!!

If you blow the picture up and compare the bottom end to the 250f motor and the wr450 motor it is easy to see that it's the wr450 motor. Look at the water pump, oil filter and casting shape in front of the clutch cover. For sure the wr 450 motor.

Yamaha, other than the TX500 and TX 750, have always made good engines. Not a bad partnership. My guess is that Yamaha might have some financial (other than supplier) interest in GG.

I would imagine its as good as it gets. WR450s feel big to me, like TE450s. The GG frame can only help that.

Could it be the 300f?

Over here in Europe for 2012 gg are selling a factory 300f that uses the 2011 Yamaha 250f engine with an athena jug to make a 300f. It's a 2012 model but looks more like a 2011 bike with the plastics, but gets the goodies of a 2012 bike.

Evidently they will be available in April to buy, but most have already been pre-ordered.
