Chain tension ?

Just wondering what kind of play you guys use. The manual says 25mm but that seems way to tight (thats what I have on my road bikes) I have a new O-ring chain & set the play at about 35-40mm. How does that sound? It prob. dosn't matter but the bike is an 06 EC250

I take my bike off of the stand and check it with my fingers.

In other words while I am holding the bike from falling I check to see if I can get more than 3 fingers between the chain and the swing arm. I prefer about 2.5 fingers on my chain.

I measure from the very back of the chain guide.

I was measuring with bike off stand & about mid point of swingarm meas. with chain slack then pulling up on chain & meas. the diff. The 2.5 fingers seems about 35-40mm so it sounds like i'm there. I was just concerened when the shock is 3/4 or more compressed is if the chain is to tight it seems like it will affect shock travel??

Go to 3 or 3.5 fingers just to be on the safe side then.

Another thing I like to do is to sit on the bike and compress the bike and check it that way. Depending on where I am riding I will add or take away the slack to keep from stretching the chain.

After I adjust the chain, I pull the bike off the stand and compress the suspension and then check that the chain isn't too tight.

I have found that the GG likes the chain looser than most.
