Check this out!

Great!
But am I missing something here?

"The EC 450 has its own Gas Gas motor, which features fuel-injection and a five-speed transmission with a hydraulic clutch. The fuel-injection system is made by Gas Gas, but if you ever need to replace a nozzle, your local Harley-Davidson dealer will have them."

Is the 2010 450 going backwards?
5 gears?
Gas gas make the EFI?

The 5 speed comment is a misprint, later on they say the six speed is matched perfectly to the motor.

The fuel injector is probably a Bosch, so you can buy one that fits a H-D.

Finally, a decent write up on a Gas Gas.

Very nice write-up. I hope that all the reviews are consistent and good!

Can only imagine what the 250F will be like with a 300 kit:D :D :D

Brass inserts in the gas tanks...excellent

I really thought the 250/300 would be lighter than 252lbs with a full tank of gas.

What is the real capacity of the 250F tank? I really don't think it's the same as the 2 stroke tanks.

Yes, the 5-speed tranny was a misprint, they all have 6-speeds.

Another thing that unfornately didnt get mentioned was the fact that the 2-strokes still had 09 forks and settings. The factory tried to get the new sachs front forks here in time via the plane, but it just didn't happen with all the other product they brought with for the weekend.

All in all a good weekend. We flew the press in on Thursday, had an exclusive all day riding at the OMA site and Friday, plus they could race and ride on Saturday if they wanted to. No pressure or time schedules, it worked out really well. We just hung out and talked GasGas all weekend. Who wouldn't want to do that?

The 250f was a pre-production model with a tank that's almost 1 gallon smaller that what the 2strokes have. The production bikes will have a larger tank. Without gas the 250f should be almost identical in weight to the 07-09 2strokes and only 1.5-2 pounds heavier than the 2010 2strokes. It's probably lighter than most of the jap 250 4stroke woods bikes (bikes with lights, battery, electric start).

I hope you are correct on this. It's listed on the GG site at 6.3 liters which is just to small IMO.

2 more 250F questions for the Go Fasters boys.....

Will the bikes come with the 300 kit as mentioned before or will it be an option

Does the exhaust come with a S/A? If not what's the plan because most riding areas will need this to be legal?

And finally...will the desert model be available in the US? That is way cool!!

The fuel tank that is on the bike is a modified FSR tank and has all of the indentations that hold the ECU, fuel pump, etc. In that configuration the tanks capacitiy is around 1.5 gallons.

We would expect the fuel capacity to be near 2.25 if the new one piece 2-stroke tank were to be slighlty modified

The bike will be sent to to FMF soon for a S/A to be made as soon as we get done testing it a little more.

At this point the price that has been suggested is around $7800/$7900 and that would be with a 300 kit included with the 250 motor (included means everything you need to convert it is in the box). Consensus at the dealer meeting was to eliminate the 300 kit but have it available as an option. The actual price will be without the 300 kit and should be made public in about a week.

As far as the price go please note this is not a WR250f Yamaha and if you want to complain about the price than go and buy a Yamaha. Remember this is not a Yamaha WR250f with a motocross inspired frame rather a GasGas off-road 125 chasis with a Yamaha motor. If you don't get want I'm talking about again go buy a Yamaha...end of story.

Stock the bike handles like nothing I've ridden in a four-stroke off-road small bore 250 even those that have had thousand of dollars in after market work.

The bike does have WR timing and could be livend up with YZF timing if a person wanted to but I don't see much of that happening unless you're an ultra fast woods rider.

The bike should be available in the US in couple of months.

The desert model, complete with its 21 liter tank, can be imported but are built by special order only.

Mark and Steve, thanks for all the info.
There is NO manufacturer out there that interacts with riders like Gas Gas does.

I for one think the collaboration with Yamaha will pay big dividends for GasGas. It has already proven to generate lots of interest from the media which will mean lots of low cost advertising for the brand. In the next few months tens of thousands of bike riders who have never seen a GasGas will be reading articles about them in the bike mags. Also remember that this 4stroke is just the bike that many of you have lusted after - 250/300cc, elec. start, 125 gasser frame, under 230lb(no fluids). Shoot it might even get me off a 2stroke. - Ken

Mark/Steve,

So is the 250F still just a limited 2010 run, or if successfull could more engines be purchased to span the gap until the GG 250F motor is ready? I realize this may be a tough (corporate level) question.

What chassis parts are unique to 250F besides the frame and tank? I have a crazy idea.:D

Interestingly Rieju are selling an almost identical bike called the "Marathon" in Europe. There is alledgedly a 450 version as well. If Gas Gas run out I guess they will be able to re-plastic some from their friends down the road. Hope the price stays within spec though......The "Marathon" is 6999 euros over there...about $10k at current rates!

Qui-gon

GasGas is building the Rieju model.

GMP

The chasis of the 250f is basically an EC125 with alteration made only for the front motor mounts.

The seat, plastic and all components are the same as any full size EC bikes.

The subframe has a battery tray and the production motorcycle for both the 250f and 300(e-start) will have a side air box entry setup to allow for easier filter changes but will still have seat access to the air box and battery.
