Christini 300

Funny You should post this. Steve Christini and I have been in negotiations recently. My fear usa the weight in the front of the bike making it have strange handling quirks on"normal" or easy terrain.
A trusted advisor put it best. "You already excel in the nasty, you need something to assist in the open stuff." Hmmmm.

the frame on the 450 looks like a modified version of the honda crf. i wonder if the 300's frame is a modified gasser?

My pictures from the show suck. You can text GET AWD to 10958 and get some specs and video.

I have to say the 300s frame plus fit & finish in general are rough, very rough.

5 speed ktm frame gasgas powered awd 300. cool. except the 5 speed part :/

and except for the ktm frame part,,,,,
i dont like linkless shock because it doesnt work well at all....
too bad there isnt a proven design from some company that has trials influence in there blood, that would fit the gg 300 two stroke motor has linkage shock and has a 6 speed.....hummm:rolleyes:

ya know, i cant say that i would mind a ktm frame or suspension. people can argue all day about links and linkless, but ive seen way too many people ride way too fast to believe that you cant make linkless suspension work. my prime example being shane watts.

i totally agree with you on that linkage comment. i love my gasgas but i also know some rediculously fast guys that seem to get along just fine without a linkage. i would really like to here a little more on what mcnut saw at the show that made you feel the bike was really rough and un polished? just really curious

One of the things that impressed me most with the '11 GGs was fit & finish. Nice welds. Quality machining and components. Even my 17 year old thought the fab work, particularly the frame, was sub-par on the Christini 300. Their 450 looked better.

the way i see the linkless, in non wot situations the rear gets the stiff skidderbug forward stance which knifes the front which worsens as the technical aspect increases.
i agree you can go fast on a linkless. i have a 650 husaberg which is sans-link and the rear works best in the attach mode and if the rear is set by minimal, initial preload [and not the old 'sit on' to figure preload] it can really tear it up.
i guess i was thinking of slower and uglier stuff in my comment. where the linked seems more compliant, planted, and easier to ride.

never ridden, or know anyone who has, the christini but the reviews seem groundbreaking.
the prices seem reasonable, maybe even cheap for the new bike and 2wd and guarantee [i assume].

probably my next bike

Hi ,guys thought i would chime in on this one.I have ridden a 09 ktm 300 Christini, very cool.It only gets ridden in the nasty rutted out muddy terrain, and other than dammaged shock boots. And smashed cable. The system has held up extremely well. The oddest thing about the Christini is,it doesn,t feel odd at all.Don,t get me wrong,i love my last three gasser,s.But give me that sweet 300 gasser motor, parts that fit better on the chassis{wheel spacers, etc},and the front pullin when thr rear is spinning. At the price of a stock bike ,i,m in.

I think the reviews leave one thing out. How does it perform in non technical riding?

Steve Christini responded on KTMTalk about these bikes. Here's what he said.......

Hello Everyone. And thanks Brian for alerting us of this thread. We have returned from the show and are busy following up and answering questions. I'll start with a few clarifications and we can go from there.

The prices are complete bike prices and not kit prices. The 300 is a Gas Gas motor out of Spain and the 450 is coming from a factory in Asia. The factory is next to the Audis S4 factory and near BMW's 650 motorcycle factory. We are aware of the old stigma associated with this, however, the quality is there as are the OEM's above and others that many US customers are buying. With that said, we recognize the old concern and have priced the bikes accordingly. Currently, the price on a new Honda 450X is about $5800 on the open market. A new 300 either KTM or Gas Gas is about $8000. That explains the price disparity to some degree.

We also recognize that there are two different customers and the 300 is targeting the KTM, Gas Gas, Husaberg rider and will have suspension and other components to fit that demographic.

The final assembly of both bikes including the AWD installation will be in Philadelphia. The frames are our design and all of the AWD parts will continue to come from our current supply chain. We are able to hit our complete bike prices listed because we have eliminated the cumbersome and expensive frame exchange, cut, weld, heat treat process which was more than half of our internal costs of the kit.

We will be getting both bikes to the editors of all the magazines within the next few months and will expect that they will be giving their honest feedback and reviews so the customers out there can have facts on the performance, fit and finish of the bikes.

In the meantime, we will be releasing more details as we finalize the suspension supplier on the 300.

If you want a quick answer to any questions, have suggestions (please send them), or complaints (send them too!), feel free to send us an e-mail to tech@christini.com or the generalinfo@christini.com.

Thanks!

Steve

Looking good but the tank looks like a ball buster. Love to try one and I know one guy who says it's his next bike.

Wonder if they will have a frame only kit should you already have the motor?

While the big 4 japanese bike manufacturers run motorcycle racing in the USA, it is no surprise PDS is talked about so much.

If PDS is so bad, KTM would not be so frequently topping the podium in offroad racing in Europe either.
