Clay-street legal legislation.

Cool

That would be nice if they came plated/plateable.

Gonna take your thread slightly off topic (my apologies). If someone is looking for which kit to get to convert their GG, I just installed the Sicass Kit and IMO it is put together very well.

This is interesting.
The main reason we can't bring the bikes in with the street legal bits and pieces like turn signals and brake lights is an EPA emissions issue, not an equipment issue. We bring them in under a competition off road exemption from the EPA. I wonder how this would work? Sometimes the Federal government and state governments are not on the same page. I bet the EPA would still prevent us from bringing them in with street legal stuff.
I hope this passes. Please keep me informed and thanks for the heads up.

Maybe if the GG's had a throttle stop, a catalytic converter, leaner jetting and such.. 50cc scooters still run around like crazy here, and they burn 2T oil as well.

2T boat engines, all the weed and lawn equipment, snowmobiles, etc. I know these are not street legal but there's got to be something behind it. Maybe this bill will pass. I saw the original poster on TT is from Denmark?

Excluding people from using public land for any reason does not bring money to the budget of the Feds the states or the forest service. Just like hunters have paid for conservation OHV riders have been paying the big share for public land maintenance and use. Hard times and this bad economy may force government to stop excluding the OHV user because they can't afford to exist without us.

There are two pages of exemptions on the EPA form that deals with vehicles. I'm certainly no expert on their rules (honestly....I don't know if anyone is an expert on their rules) but I think that scooters under a certain displacement are exempt. Lawn equipment and boat engines aren't on the form we use so there must be a whole 'nother list of rules for those items.

This will be a good deal if it makes it through.

There are many riding areas here in Washington that could be linked together by a short ride (< 1 mile) up the road to get to the next area. ANd there are many trails that link up on forest service roads that technically you cannot ride a unlicensed vehicle on. Occasionally we have a a$$hat forest service ranger that starts ticketing people for using the forest service road to get from one trail to another. This would eliminate that.

There is a law currently on the books in Washington that allows cities under 3000 in population (IIRC) to allow unlicensed dirtbikes and quads on the city streets. The farmers in eastern WA ride on the street all the time already going from one field to the next.

I don't think you will see a large increase of dirtbikes being converted to street use for any other reason other than to be able to link trails and not have to worry about LEO's ticketing you. Nobody is going to want to ride down the road and beat the snot out of their bike to maintain a highway speed.

This law is a good thing for us. Hope it makes it through. That and I want to keep my plate on my GG.

The business people over in WV have learned how profitable it can be near the Hatfield-McCoy Trail to allow motorcycles and quads on their streets. It brings in a lot of revenue. I was told that KY is working on a trail system for the same reason. Maybe it will catch on in other areas, too.

I feel bad for you guys. Here its as easy as walking into the nearest motor-vehicle branch and walking out with a plate. and my gasser came with blinkers. :D
