Clutch Whirring

I know a few here have reported the same thing. In neutral with the clutch out it makes a bit of noise. Pull the clutch and its much quieter. Let it out and its noisey again.

My bikes always done this since new. I'm not sure if its louder since my rebuild, or if I'm just paying more attention to it now.

Whats the cause of the noise and any way to quiet it down a bit? The steels were all still flat, and fibres were all in spec.

dont have an answer... but my 07 is the same way..

it has never growled or chirped like some say they do, but i am not hard on a clutch either.. my 01 was not that way and i have the complete clutch out of it i may try... looking forward to an answer also..

I think it's the transmission engagement. When you release the lever the springs take over and clamp the stack pretty tight. The drive shaft begins to spin at this time. Couple of bearings, 6 gears interfacing, good opportunity for noise generation. Pull on the lever and the drive shaft stops spinning and the plates are separated by oil (damped). I really believe it's the drive shaft lash that is making the noise, but you don't hear it when it's rolling. Sitting in neutral, clutch lever out, bike idling, everything thrashing around, and there's your noise.

Just my opinion.

Makes sense to me :D Yeah can't hear anything but sweet 2T sounds when its rolling.. Or burble burble burble with this smart carb when off the pipe

Same noise here, not big difference (meybe at all) it is 450hrs or 70hrs runned 300ec
I had owned 2000,2006,2008, 2009 all the same clutch "noise"

My 2001 XC300 has the same noise, but I find that if I rotate the throttle tube towards me, I cant hear the noise and I stop caring about it too! :D

Haha.....same thing here. My clutch def makes noise untill I pull the lever in. All of my dirt bikes have now that I think about it.

I think its just highlighted sometimes, in the shed, with another bike beside it, no helmet, alloy bash plate.. lots of reflective sound. Add to that that I was paying attention to all the sounds more after my virgin bottom end rebuild and it was enough to make me question it all.
