Condition of Les

Hey everyone, I started this thread so maybe I should end it. I think we are all upset over Les' health and financial difficulties, but let's not tear into one another over politics that are out of our hands. This is a great forum with a lot of caring people. Let's take this energy and direct it towards Les in a positive way. He will need our support to get thru this.

Thank you Dave

Get well Les

Well said, +1

I am humbled and thankful...

For everyone's support, thoughts and wishes. Thank you.

Roscoe, what you and Jarna did for me on Sunday was nothing short of amazing. I cried like a little girl, we are so grateful for such caring and the efforts of so many involved. My whole family is amazed at what kindness and support has come my way.

Jeff, your help and kindness, all you have done far beyond comprehension of a compassionate, caring human being is second to none. I can't believe anyone could have a finer best friend.

Everyone has their own circumstances. Everyone has their own situations to deal with in life and we should respect the fact that not everyone is able to do what another is able to do in their life. I totally admire the success and accomplishments of others, especially when they are still good, caring and normal respectful people.

Very few people know and rarely do I share my long term challenges and what I have had to overcome since I was first diagnosed with MS in 1992. Had to quit my good paying job with benefits and make my own that I could manage. That can change your life and it completely did for me. I have done the best I can do to carry my own water and NEVER considered any kind of government assistance that was "entitled" to me, ever. I've had to work very hard and be VERY conservative in everything I do to just get by. I love the small business I have going for me, mostly because of the great customers and interacting with them let alone doing something one loves to do. At the end of the day, it just pays the bills and taxes, I am very thankful.

I have had health insurance previously, sometimes one can't have everything and something has to give somewhere. Consider what is most important to you first and gamble what you can.

My accountant said to me the other day, she has watched us balance a pin on our nose for the last 12 years she has known us and is amazed with what we have done. Its been tough but I wouldn't change it for the world. I have a lot to be thankful for, and all of you are part of that.

I can't thank everyone enough. I will just have to do my best with this new physical and financial challenge I have and hope things stay somewhat intact in the near future.

well put les...

btw, you dont have those kind of friends, by not being one at some point sir...

get well ..

Les,

Hang in there! This can happen to anyone at anytime. I'm 47 years old. Last summer I suddenly had a heart attack. There weren't many warning signs. I went to physical rehab and I have rode three hare scrambles this year.

On a side note, I don't want to reignite a debate, I have good health insurance but IMHO the doctors, hospitals and pharmacies have tried to squeeze every dollar out of me for the last 10 months. And the hospitals and doctors made mistakes with me. Like the others said, I am informed and I live in your backyard. But hardworking people that are struck down by an illness should not have to worry about paying for over priced substandard healthcare.

:) It was an easy thing to do, and a no brainer. That was the largest group ride I've ever had, and it went quite well.

A friend is putting together a video for you of it from stuff we captured on our helmet cams and I think maybe even some still shots.

Your welcome to join us for lunch, During our Gas Gas meet n greet ride and BBQ if your feeling up to it. It's in a couple weeks.
Or maybe you would just like a bottle of water, not sure what your cleared to eat yet.;)

Take care,
Roscoe

Wow! That is too cool Roscoe. I feel like the most fortunate person alive with that picture and everyone else's support and wishes. All of you make me feel so honored.

Good to know, things are coming along for Les.

RE private vs. public medicine;

Both systems have their benefits and drawbacks equally. And get this - you PAY no matter what, about the same amount per person on average I might add. You either pay it via taxes, or via 'insurance' premiums(directly by yourself, or indirectly from your employer- who pays you a smaller salary overall, to compensate for the health benefit).
Both systems are inefficient in their own ways. Public: gov't politics, mismanaged funds(ie. google 'Ornge') etc. Private: 2-3 levels of funds siphoned off for 'profit'; at the insurer level, at the hospital/HMO level & exhorbitant Executive salaries & ? $48 million to be CEO of a group of hospitals???? get real, that's immoral & unconscionable!.
Also, I just sold my share of a business that dealt with US hospitals all the time & I can go on and on about how much money is wasted in the US private system.
At least in a social system, you have coverage no matter what. Even if it isn't always topnotch, it's still pretty good the rest of the time. In the private system, if you have money, bully for you. Lost your job & broke? oh well, too bad.........
I'm from Canada- Officially we have a single tier public health system. Unofficially, we have a 3 tier system; 1. For the rich.(private hospitals- yes we have them & anyone can use them if they cough up the fees - although they aren't in awareness of the general public, with the exception of a few like the Shouldice Clinic in Toronto- the World class Hernia treatment center.)
2. For those who are connected(no waits in the public system. Doctors, surgeons etc. always leave spots open on their schedules for 'friends & family' etc.). 3. For everyone else(the 6 month wait John & Janes)
It's similar in Germany & other countries with social systems- many are trending towards a combo of public and private healthcare, whether they admit it publicly or not......

Even so, my 13yr old nephew just beaned tree 2-1/2 weeks ago on his CRF, resulting in a compound fracture of his left femur in 3 places. He got an airlift to London Health Sciences in London ON, very good urgent Surgery & post-op medical care in a semi private room. Direct cost to his parents: $0. Indirect cost? Normal payroll taxes.
If that was in the US, the bill would have probably been 100G's(or more) paid via ins(assuming you have the type of coverage req'd & don't get an ugly surprise afterwards, to find out you weren't covered....). or directly out of pocket.

One of the early posters on this thread did make a good point though about how the US prioritizes gov't funds. Not making a political statement, but just acknowledging the the point is fair & worth consideration......

The US has many REALLY good Hospitals and doctors(And I MEAN REALLY GOOD!), but overall, the US private system sucks just as badly and any other one(public or private) on the planet.

Many Canadians Go to the US for advanced Healthcare, but just as many Americans come to Canada just to get Healthcare(That's the dirty little secret the Private health lobby in the US doesn't want folks to know about & also adds to wait times for Canadians).

So GMP, I suggest maybe calming down and realizing that nobody is crapping in your backyard, but that they are only providing information. Nothing more, nothing less.....

Jus Sayin.......

And I was jus sayin back to bchatt, who did not offer any information just empty critisism. Your reply was OK, until you told me to calm down.

video..

hey roscoe... would you link the video in here somewhere...

that would be pretty cool..

Great news Glenn! and top work on the recovery! I have more than my own 2c worth to add on the poltical topic but decided not to. Not the right thread, and don't want to see this bike forum spiral down the political sheethole. We all come from different countries and all have different opinions. Lets leave it at that :D

Only suggested it.....:)

If it helps any, I get wound up about the issues also. Prolly why I have a dirt bike, so I can go forget about them for awhile.........

Cheers & no worries from holidays in OZ

I certainly will, not sure when it will be done. But will put it on here.

I am however a little concerned about the killer debate it may trigger.;) I mean in Canada they might like their video shot from the side of the helmet and in New Zealand they might like theirs shot from the chest protector. This American shot it off the top of the helmet........ just saying.
