Considering 2010 ec200

Hello, I am new to this site and have a couple questions. I'll start off with a little background first though. I have the chance to buy a 2010 gas gas ec200. I don't know a lot, if anything about these bikes though. Bikes I've recently owned are yz 250 2 stroke (set up for woods) and a husky wr 125. My buddies have ktm 200 xcw so I know about the 200 power. I am a B class rider and race hare scramble and enduros. I just have a few questions about the gassers though; are parts hard to find? Are parts more expensive vs "major" brands? Are they pretty reliable? Any glaring issues in 2010?

I apologize if these questions have been beaten to death but I couldn't really find any answers when I searched this forum. I could only find comparisons vs the ktms. Any help is appreciated and thanks for your time. Dave.

Welcome Dave!
I can not say for sure if parts are more expensive or not but there are a lot of good trusted websites to order from such as ktm-parts.com and motocrosscenter.com i know for me to find any part i simply search the part's reference number. also any dealer should be able to order the part and mail it to you.

hope i helped, liam

Me too

I have a 2010 300 and am in the Market for a KTM 200 to either add to the fleet or replace my 300 (not sure yet).

I had a 200 EXC in the past and Wife currently on a 200 XC so I am familiar with the KTM 200 power deliver/ride also.

Parts: For my 10' 300 I have never had issues getting parts. I have not noticed any major difference in price/s.

Reliability: Pretty close (in my opinion) to KTM. Close enough for Me anyways.

2010 GG quirks : None that I can really think of. 10' has the Sachs Forks but our usual Tuner was able to work his magic without issues.

I'm going to add-on to your list of questions:

I am curious about the power deliver (low end specifically) of the GG 200 vs. a KTM 200. A long time ago my Wife had a GG200 and the low-end was nearly nonexistent relative to a KTM 200.

I have a 11 and a 5 I am 6ft 2 in tall small frame set up but I like mine , Parts are in line with ob rode a few ob 200 n they were different feeling than my bikes . One of mine has a smaller flywheel runs like a Moto cross bike the other lots of low end . At 205 lbs with gear it gets me Anywere I am capable of going with it . Make sure you know what ignition you are getting . I will have my 200 a long time they are just great bikes . No problems with them that were not my doing ! Good Luck with your new bike .

I think the ec 200 is a great bike, not as strong as the yz, but a lot more bottom and mid than the husky 125 about the same on top. The 200 has a super smooth motor vs the ktm. But jetting is key for the 200, and I'm not sure I would want one with the heavy flywheel. Parts are about the same as other brands, but hard to find "good deals" on oem parts. Mine has been stone reliable.

I just replace my 2003 KTM 200 with a 2011 GG 200 and I can tell you that the KTM has more low end power but that's it. Mid to top end speed are the same but the thing that makes a huge difference on the GG is the handling it is amazing. I just started to play with the jetts and it is getting better and better.

Very helpful as my KTM 200 was an 03 also.

Thanks for all the responses, I'm 95% sure I'm going with the gasser now. talked to a local dealer today about parts so that squashed the concerns I had there. From what you guys are saying about the power, I'd like to have more bottom end but the handling will make up for that in my opinion, I don't mind using the clutch when riding. For me the two major things I want in a bike are handling and traction. Again, thanks for all the help and this site seems super helpful for other things I've searched.

Chiming in late, but I came off an orange 300 onto an '11 EC200 and couldn't have made a better choice. The decision to switch from the 300 to the 200 began when I took a rip on my friend's orange 200 ('13) and I immediately knew the 200 was a better bike for my riding skill and style. The biggest thing I didn't like about the KTM 200 was the front end feel - had the same issue on my 300 - just wasn't planted.

I took a test ride on the 200 I ended up buying and it was a no brainer. I actually didn't feel much difference in the power delivery between the two brands, though I'm sure that could be attributed to gearing & jetting differences.

I like my 200 so much that I had my wife ride it and we ended up selling her KTM 250 4T so she could get one too :D

Once you pick her up, definitely post some shots and your impressions. Once you have the jetting dialed in and the suspension setup to your preferences, you'll be incredibly glad you made the jump

Have had 3 KTM 200's and 2 Gasgas 200's. Tbucket nailed it. KTM has stronger motor, Gasgas 200 is best handling bike I've ever ridden!

me

Forgive my unintentional attempts to take over this Thread:

Anybody had luck with mods to increase the low-end on the 200?

Jetting, PV, Squish ? What else?

Hi ,I had a 2010 EC300.Only issues I can think of that may be relevant to a 200 are-
Seat-Super hard & mine started to tear where the cover wraps under the seat.Re-covered with gripper material & softer foam, much better.
Kick stand- POS! broke off several times.
Red front forks-these are hard to replace.Dented one & had a hell of a time getting a replacement.
Front forks-Odd shim sizes.Find someone that has done them before & they are ok revalved & sprung correct.
Rear Sach shock- sort of ok.Takes alot of time getting them to behave.
Power Valve- Take the play out of it.Worth the time.
Replace the banana muffler.
Parts- Not expensive, most stuff cross references to other brands.
Great Brakes,great motor,sharp handling,ordinary suspension.Best looking gasser ever IMHO.
