Hi
i am considering replacing my 05 KTM 250EXC with an 07 Gas Gas 250EC.

I'm interested in knowing:-

How the EC suspension compares?
My KTM is very twitchy at speed on square edged bumps.
lock to lock gets wearing after a while!

I like a strong motor that revs out (dont mind a mild hit)
How does the 250 EC motor compare to a KTM?

any help any 250 EC owners could give me would be appreciated

Suspension= no comparison, GG is much better.

Stability= again no comparison, it will blow your mind coming off a KTM. I don't even use a stabilizer on my bike, it is sitting in a box in my shop.

peppy motor= KTM in stock form. However, the GG can be easily tuned to get what you want. Ex: less fly wheel weight, pipes, jetting, head mod. My last 2 stroke was a KX310 and I am quite satisfied with the overall power and delivery of my EC250. Sucker runs. I have it tuned as you described the way you explained you wanted it.

You won't be disappointed.

'07 GG wins on all counts. My '07 250 has relatively smooth power with good low end and a very high rev ceiling. I think you will like it.

The GG is better suspended in my opinion and easier to ride. It seems to operate well over a wider range of terrain and rider weight. The Enduro (EC) motors are usually a little smoother than KTM EXC, haven't tried the MC. But as indicated by jetting, pipe and flywheel you can have a hit if you want one. Personally I don't. Hey you can have my hit I'm trying to get rid of it!

I am also a KTM owner and they can be setup to behave well. First thing is that most of the manuals are completely wrong for woods riding. You absolutely need to spring them for you weight and run more sag than the manual - they are as you have found not very forgiving if the setup is wrong.

thankyou all for your considered replies. I am becoming more used to the idea of making my next bike a 07 GG EC.

All ive got to do is find the right bike now...ebay UK here i come

I swapped an '07 KTM 300E for an '07 GG 300 & have posted reports here in Gen Discussions & on KTMTalk in What Bike Should I Buy. summary: no regrets.
