Dakar

Very cool, I hope they do well. I would imagine they will be on the 450 4stroke.....I know I will be following them.

If I had the cash I would have that bike!! that is one sweet 450! make one great ds bike. When they talked of the special order dakar bikes I actually contemplated selling my jeep for a used pickup and ordering the 450 with the extra tall 5 &6th gear.. The cost of 10K didn't sound out of line for what you were getting at the time.. but the vagueness of it all actually coming here to the US was a bit daunting.. that and the wife reminding me that we have bills to pay kept me from trying it.. still.... wish I had that instead of my "great pumpkin"

Hey Cruiser, what's up?

Lu Lu Puy still on the GG Team?

I'd sure like to see that 450 do well.;)

of course you post,, the guy who got the last clean GG 450 out there... If I had the cash I would not have an orange bike now...
And I hope she is still.. great rider.. and I liked reading here blog once translated..but felt like a stalker so I stopped..

:D

ANd yes, Lu Lu is still on Team Gas Gas:

Important news announced the need for the views of all the rumors running around everywhere.

Pour 2012 je porterai pour la 10?me ann?e les couleurs de Gasgas sans aucun changement pour moi. For 2012 I will carry for the 10th year the colors of Gasgas no change for me. La?a Sanz nous a rejoints dans le Team usine, la concurrence sera surement plus forte, mais c'est bien. Laia Sanz has joined us in the Factory Team, the competition will probably be stronger, but it's good
.

the photo I saw of the team bike looked more like a Yamaha WR450 with GasGas stickers (check out photo on offroadchampions.com)

I think a 450 is the max engine size now. Last year they tried to change it to 450cc a few months before the race and their was a big upror so bikes bigger than 450cc had to run restricters.

Elite riders had to run 450's last year, amateurs could run up to 690. This year everyone has to be on a 450.

Everyone limited to 3 engines, time penalties for each change of engine for the elite riders, euro ($) penalties for the rest.
Or that's what the rules say at the moment of course the ASO make the rules up as they go along, of if your French they don't apply at all!

WTF?? I wonder if GG is buying more stuff from them than the 250 mill?? at least for the dakar rally stuff.. it would make sense as all the tanks fairings etc can be bought instead of fabricated special.. just kind of sad its not a real gasgas..

It is exciting how many different teams and brands are involved now though. In the past it seemed to be a KTM only affair.

This is a pretty stupid business move. Nothing says "our 450 is a piece of shit, we don't think it will even finish, don't buy it" like putting your bike company stickers on another brands bike and pretending like it's yours with a smile on your face. Kind of makes it hard for a GasGas guy to get enthusiastic about the Dakar attempt.

What is wrong with the real Dakar bike that they have????

One thought is that there is some financial arrangement between GasGas and Yamaha. Did Yamaha buy part of GG? How is GG paying for development of the new 2012s? Money's tight in Europe. They have to finance it some way.

Who knows. I would have never noticed that it was a yamaha. GasGas (the poster, not the company) picked up on it right away.

Money is likely indirectly coming from IMF bailouts of the failing socialist govts, a good deal of which ultimately comes from us, the US taxpayer! Look at all these small mfgs popping up and resurecting themselves like Jotsgas and Ossa. In this economy? Not without govt subsidies. Maybe a new Greek bike wil show up soon, but you would have to retire it early and make payments for life.

I wanted to name my first kid Mediocretes to take the pressure off of her, but my wife put the kabash on that.
