Do you have insurance on your bike?

I just got quoted $250 a yr for theft with $100 deductible and thought that was ?
Where is the best place for dirt bike ins. and what do you pay? is $250 high?

Thanks

I pay $142 / year through Farmer's Insurance Group in Lafayette and I have collision because my bike is plated. I would think off-road only would be cheaper.

my wife (who is my ins agent) tells me if it is stolen from your house, it is covered by your homeowners ins, subj to deduct.. which is about what my bikes are worth...

i wonder tho... you can "schedule" property (like jewelry) on your home owners..... wonder if you can do a bike.. i will ask..

homeowners typically will not cover stolen bike since it has a VIN. call your insurance guy now and get it covered. my friend just lost 20,000 in dirt bikes.

I have to have it for street plate and enduros (which often use public roads).
I have mine through Progressive. I was able to add on "options" like skid plate, enduro computer, steering damper, etc.
It is under $150 for the year (in VT). Not sure what the deductible is.

I pay $75/yr for liability and comprehensive through Progressive. Deductible is $500.

she said in texas anyway... this is our best option.. the progressive thing..

cannot schedule a dirt bike...

our policy, she says, will cover them in case of theft from my house as part of the contents coverage.. subject to deduct.. which is about what my bikes are worth.. so you have me thinking about it..

she is a licensed adjuster and claims mgr in texas..

I had 3 bikes stolen out of my garage about 18 months ago. Home owners does not cover bikes, quads, etc. Not fun replacing 3 bikes. I got insurance for mine, but don't remember how much it costs. Pretty cheap per/mo. if I remember right.

Be careful. I've heard of people getting dropped by their homeowner's insurance provider due to owning things like certain breeds of dogs, dirtbikes/ATVs, etc.

yeah.. we help a dog rescue org and foster dogs for them.. we dont take in pits or rots... our ins will not allow them. there is a city ordinance about them, but i live outside the city limits.... my wiener dog is more likely to bite you than any of those..

sorry.. back on topic...

Just picked up an '02 ATK 605 for D-P here in Colorado: State Farm full coverage was $36 and change per year. Includes collision and theft. I had 2 bikes stolen 3 years ago and they would not pay under home owner's policy as the bikes had VINs and since they offer powersports coverage it was not included. Even the agent was surprised about that!

I just got done paying mine for a 12 XC250R-e. Full coverage with a medical rider incase I get hurt riding it is $194 per year. Mine is with progressive and the deductable is $250.

If they are not registered, you can add a rider to many policies to cover them, like expensive jewelry, etc. The dog thing is true though, so make sure your pit is a " terrier mix".

Yes, full coverage on all the bikes in my garage. Wife works for USPS so we get a great discount from Gieco, $27 a month for five dirt bikes.

You guy's have it easy south of the border. Here in Ontario I pay $436 per year just for my Gasser ( street plated no collision ). No multi bike discounts either, so I end up paying $590 for my 900 Ninja, and another $550 for my KZ750 ontop of that.

Insurance up here is legalized rape.

3 bikes, 2 cars, one Jeep, and the house costs me well over $6000 a year.

Do they hand out KY with your coverage? That is ridiculous. House, 2 cars, boat, Victory Jackpot and 5 dirt bikes. Not even close to 6K, closer to $2500.

Just got done doing the Progressive $75 deal. I did it online and then called to see if I could get discount because I am an AMA member and they said they don't offer that now
Oh, well...if my bike gets stole I pay $250 deduct and back in business.

+10000000on that!

I've often marveled at how low the rates in the US are compared to here in Ontario. Especially considering that the US tends to be more litigious.
Up here, it's a different excuse every year for the rates, but they all translate to 'costs have gone up', which is nothing but a steaming pile.
