Do you have to reprime the carb?

As the title suggests..

Managed to fill up with some contaminated fuel at an out of the way filling station, bike ran like absolute crap after filling so when i got home took the carb apart and found lots of paintchip debris? red flecks of stuff which was blocking the jets, cleaned everything put a spare tank on while i clean the other one out, and filled with new clean fuel, but now i cant start the bugger so my question is do you have to prime these carbs and if so how?

I wouldn't think so as there is no "prime" available. Uses choke circuit for cold start. I'd recheck my carb and also the plug as it may have leaned it so much that it fried the plug. Make sure you back flow the line from tank to carb also.

Think you might be right as just whipped the plug out and it looks fairly burnt out, and i cant get it to spark when i ground it to the frame.....

Just got to wait on the postie for a new plug then..

No need to prime, something simple is going on like maybe the float is in wrong and not opening the needle to let fuel in or maybe the new tank had something in the screen or something. Maybe even the fuel filter could be stopped up? Take the nut loose from the bottom of the carb and see if you are getting fuel there, if so then you still have a jet stopped up (lots of little orifices in there).

Well after the advice here i decided to take another peak inside the carb...

Gross stupidity.....

Only forgot to hook the internal spring bumper on the fuel inlet needle to the float assembly tang....

No wonder i couldnt get it to start.

Thanks for all the advice and i look forward to calling on the collective, when i next leave my brain on the bench!

It would help to put a in line fule filter in that way you dont have to take the carb out just change the filter.

Believe it or not it had one....

I have ended up replacing all the fuel line the tank and cleaned the carb thouroughly.

When i flushed the tank out with water i had so much paint flecks coume out it was frightening. Think the chap must have painted the inside of his storage tank, and then muggins came along.

Don't think Id be buying fuel there anymore
