anyone know if early 250 ec heads will fit on newer bikes.i can buy a head from a 99 2000 year bike but need to know if it will fit on my 2009 ec250

Back to '99 is fine, but you will have to use the old style socket head cap screws to match as the relief areas around the holes are smaller. The '97 and '98 heads will not fit. When GG made the 300 in '99 they changed the castings (larger) so the 250 and 300 are interchangeable.

early heads

received my head from ebay offered it up to the 1 on bike now and looks as if it will fit.the water takeoff looks higher and the plug is slanted to the left side of bike anyone else fitted early head on late bike

That does not sound good, sounds like the '97/'98 head to me. You will likely find that the head you bought has a smaller bolt pattern.

i will have a measure up when in garage.i was told it was from a 2001.

looked through my messages he had 2. 1 from a 98 and 1 from a 2001 said they looked the same is there much difference visually.

Yes there is, as you noticed yourself the angled plug and taller water outlet. You got the '98 head, have him take it back and give you the correct '01 head.

i will ask for an exchange .ha said they both look the same so i expect the other 1 will be pre 99 just my luck.thanks for reply
